  1. Rob C from Rosedale, Canada writes: Hard to believe what this poor guy has been through despite all his success. He is a great guy...Even tough I do hate the Habs, it's hard to find any that are individually "unlikeable" - (there are a few though)
  2. Robert Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Nice tribute of Mr. Brunt to a great player, manager and person...

    In Bob we trust!

    Go Habs!
  3. Pat Billings from CDN, Canada writes: Great read.

I believe Gainey is the Habs' anglo version of Jean "Le Gros Bill" Beliveau. Two guys with class who excelled at playing the game and how they have carried themselves once their career ended. It should be a great ceremony. I'm looking forward to his speech.
  4. Andrew Perry from Halifax, Canada writes: Yes Pat, and it would be fitting if it were Beliveau that gave the speech. I look forward to watching the evening on RDS while the rest of hockey's only real market watches the Fleas /Almost as Deads on the National Feed.
HNIC can Suck Donkey genitals for all I care.
  5. Robert Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Gainey is the kind of guy that I would want as Prime Minister...

Maybe Dryden should talk to him...
  6. Robert Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Andrew Perry from Halifax, Canada:

If the CBC's HNIC even dreams of not covering Gainey's jersey retirement nationally (as they did by airing a Tie Domi tribute on Boom Boom Geoffrion's jersey retirement night) then the CBC and I will be through for good as well...
  7. Frank Godfrey from Canada writes: Robert Miller, HNIC is quaking at the mere thought of losing your viewership. Seriously though, Bob Gainey is special and most deserving of the honours. Living in the Peterborough area, my memories of Bob Gainey go back a long time. Well done, Bob !
  8. R. Carriere from Maritimes, Canada writes:

To Mr.Brunt; What a fine piece of journalism! Bravo! Nothing needs to be added! You said it all, without any condescension.

  9. Alberto Bayo from Canada writes: What a career on the ice (defensive specialist), and off as well. When Bob became G.M. of the Canadiens in 2003, you just knew good things would follow...and Bob has quietly delivered. Gainey's truly a class act and has done a great job building up the Canadiens
over the last few years even though his personal life has had tragedies. The Habs are a little ahead of schedule, but who's complaining? Looking forward to the pre-game ceremonies tonight...something the Montreal club always does beautifully. GO HABS GO
  10. greg kidd from winnipeg, Canada writes: Fine article Mr. Brunt on Bob Gainey and the habs. One exception however, you refer to the Canadiens as "a once-great hockey franchise".Aside from the New York Yankees,no other pro sports francise has as many championships as the Montreal Canadiens. As a former Montrealer myself, many canadians from coast to coast view the Montreal Canadiens as a "Great hockey franchise" period. Looking forward to tonite's ceremonies. G. Kidd Wpg. Man.
  11. P McLean from Canada writes: I hate the Habs as well, but can't help but notice how they do seem to know how to do things right. Ceremonies, the players....I hadn't realized Gainey had lost his wife as well. Forget about hockey, this man has shown resiliency from important bad things, not losing a playoff series. Classy guy.
