  1. Robert Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Amazing that so many Fleas will not waive their no-trade clauses...

The teams is sitting in 28th place! Why don't these guys want to go to a potential winning team?

The fans in TO are obviously being too nice to this bunch...
  2. P P from Canada writes: I think the Kings are trying harder than the Leafs to get the # 1 draft pick.
  3. George Hall from Canada writes: Toronto is smart to stick with the players they have instead of giving them away in desperation.
Toronto could only be two or three players away from a championship team
Give your players away and you have nothing... Toronto has demonstrated that they compete with anyone in the league
  4. Robert Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: I don't understand the post about Toronto demonstrating that they can compete with anyone in the league...

Is that why the Leafs are merely 4 points away from last place in the entire NHL?

Go Leafs -- If you actually hit bottom with this band of nare do wells and burn outs, there is nowhere that you can go but up!
  5. The Radish from London, Canada writes: George Hall - Unfortunately the three players would have to be Sidney Crosby, Jerome Iginla and Chris Pronger, the rest of the team would have to perform at the very top end of their potential, they would have to become much meaner and hungrier and they'd still need some luck.
I do agree that there's no point in dealing any Leaf player for less than they are worth, and any offer for Kaberle in particular would have to be pretty sweet. Unfortunately it's looking more and more that Fletcher won't be able to pull off the quick fix Leaf fans are hoping for by stockpiling young talent. Here's hoping that he doesn't improve the team just enough to continue the mediocrity, the Leafs could sure use some high picks for a change.
  6. Pat Billings from CDN, Canada writes: Sundin and Kaberle are used to getting paid millions and going on vacation by mid-April. Why give that up?

Especially considering if they went to a real contender, they could play in to June. That cuts too deep into their vacation.

Also, if you retire as a leaf, no matter how little success you had (hello Dougie and Wendel), you can milk the leaf association for the rest of your life.
  7. Drew Diggs from Toronto, Canada writes: All you haters amaze me, always bashing the Leafs and so quick to rag on their players and fans. There are many players in the league that have stuck and are sticking with their clubs regardless of its success. The players in Toronto are treated very well and are loved by the fans in this city. To play for the Leafs is an honour. It dosn't matter how bad they are or what place they finish in. This city lives and breaths hockey and to play here professionally is just about as good as it gets. Players like Sundin and Kaberle are particularly lucky because they are well respected, highly skillful players. The fans of this city love these guys the most and will praise them and treat them like Gods. Oh and please do not give me that blabble about the dollars and the contracts because EVERY nhl player in the league will try and get the most money they can. At least these two particular players do not sell out. Sundin even took a hiar-cut to play here, when he easily could have recieved top dollar from another team. Stop hating on these players and this city just because some GM made some awful moves (Kubina, Raycroft, McCabe, Tucker, Blake). Go Leafs Go!
  8. Michael Allen from Vancouver, Canada writes: I agree there seems to be a lot of hate, but I don't think it is for the reason that Mr Diggs states. These people say these things because it gets them attention, full stop. Being a pest, a troll - whatever you want to call it - is great, you get to sound cool, detached, work on your attitude and trot out your latest bon mots. It's like a mosquito at the lake, ignore it, it will go away. The columnists are the same, mostly hip attitude and trite observations. I like being a Leaf fan, I like talking with other Leaf fans, I'm as proud as can be of the sweater. I don't like losing too much, but have gotten used to it - maybe the players have too. I'd like some changes. But I've never cheered for a team because I thought they would win - what would that make me? I cheer for them because they are my team. Thick or thin. Otherwise, you're just hitching a ride, baby! (one more thing - So many athletes have disappointed with their childish need to be on a winner. Such insecurity and shallowness. Mats is teaching all the kids a lesson. What's it all about? It's about the journey, your teammates, the effort. Try your best and maybe fail with your friends, or trot on over to the winning team. Easy choice for a big guy with principles. And we want this guy to leave?!?! Not me.)
  9. Shades of Grey from Canada writes: I'm perplexed by the names that are being thrown around. The Leafs are trying to deal in order to get rid of overpaid and older players. From most accounts Kaberle is reasonably if not under paid. Ponikarovsky and Antropov are inexpensive, big players with the potential to pot 20 goals. All three are relatively young. There is no point in trading any of them. If Fletcher is unable to persuade Sundin, Tucker or McCabe to waive his no trade clause, and is unable to find a taker for Kubina, Gill or Raycroft, then the only thing to do is bite the bullets, develop the younger players, and continue to suck and draft high for the next two or three years.
  10. Robert Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: How are those blinders working for you, Drew Diggs?

If the Laffs and their fan base are actually satisfied with their team being mediocre to terrible, that's fine...

All I would ask is that the Fleas please be kept off the HNIC national broadcast while the Habs and Sens are battling it out for first place in the Eastern Conference...
  11. Robert Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Sorry, I have now seen the light!

I used to think that professional sports was actually about competition --

Now, I plainly see its all about "the journey, your teammates and the effort."

lol ...and getting paid several million to boot to never really accomplish anything...

    Bzzzzzzz!
  12. Drew Diggs from Toronto, Canada writes: Hey Miller, I never said I was satisfied with my team being mediocre. I simply stated that Sundin and Kaberle do not deserve the bashing that you and other so easily dish out. Look at Pat Bilings post, wtf is that all about?? Bottom line is JFJ handcuffed this team and made some really bad decisions. Now that he is gone I would prefer to not see Kaberle (our best Defenseman at a great price) get traded. I also do not wanna see Mats get traded for nothing, if you deal him, make sure you milk the team your dealing him too. Also, I stated in my post that playing for the Leafs is an honour and that this city LOVES hockey. That is why these players dont want out. Get rid of the lame ducks (Kubina, Raycroft, Poni, Steen, Tucker, Blake) and fix this mess. Give the Toronto fans the team they deserve and need. P.S. funny you mention Ottawa and Montreal, how quick you forget how badly Ottawa blew for so many years. The Sens have only been dominate the last few seasons and have not won anything. Montreal has not won the cup in almost 15 years. Think the cup is coming home this year?? Probably not.
  13. George Hall from Canada writes: I think with Torono recently beating Boston, Ottawa, Montreal and Detroit says alot.
I do think it will take a miracle to beat Columbus...no motivation and the Blue Jackets will really put it out knowing their friends , family and an audience will be watching them when hardly anyone watches their games for the most part.
  14. Robert Miller from Halifax, Canada writes: Drew Diggs from Toronto, Canada:

Don't disagree that JFJ's management was a big problem, but it is clearly not the only problem at MLS&E...

Some Toronto fans also seem to have consistently missed out on the fact that the NHL has changed...

Younger, faster players and teams that grow up together...

Look at teams like Pittsburgh and Montreal -- mostly home grown young 'uns that play within a system!

Some of us will never know what you guys see in a Matts Sundin... Kaberle might be a keeper...

Go ahead and love your players, but try to know when you should say good-bye to them to!

PS. Strange things can happen in Montreal in the Spring -- Get into the playoffs and anything can happen... The Habs weren't supposed to win in 1986 and 1993 either...
  15. Allan Martel from Canada writes: Drew Diggs says it is an honour to play for the Leafs.

Reminds me of the errant knight and the barmaid of olden times.

    She offered her honour.

    He honoured her offer.

And all knight long it was honour and offer.
