  1. Billy Biroux from Polar Bear Pit, Nunavet, Canada writes: I wish DAve Naylor once and for all would explain to us peons how a football team in Toronot is going to kill an entire national league?
Especailly when baseball and basketball were supposed to do the same thing. And especially when the NFL has been right next door to Canadian cities for the past 50 years?
Looks like Naylor and freinds theory is more wishful thinking then fact.
So give us numbers and statistics to back your claims. Because talk is cheap.
  2. johnny meahan from halifax, Canada writes: the statistics are going to be when not one of the 50 thousand plus seats go unsold, something that the Argos or any CFL team could ever dream of, despite the CFL ticket being about 1/3 the cost.
  3. Fred Draper from Kingston, Canada writes: Johnny, what if the way to Bills tickets is through having Argos tickets? Wouldn't that be sellouts all around?

And to Billy's point, how would that kill the Stamps, Eskimos, et. al?
  4. A non-Imus from Canada writes: Run. Run. Run. Punt. Feel the excitement!
  5. P P from Canada writes: I can't wait to get my hands on the tickets and resell them for huge $$$$$$$$$$$. I'll take the CFL over NFL anyday.
  6. Martin England from Toronto, Canada writes: Hey...if anyone wants to buy my tickets...I'm not going.
  7. Flames Forever from Canada writes: Nothing will kill the Stamps...
  8. My Humble Opinion from Canada writes: Short, narrow field, fair catch, run run run punt...nfl sucks. would rather watch paint dry.
  9. D. Patrick from Gonzoville, Canada writes: "The overwhelming belief is that if the NFL does come to Toronto, it will not only spell the end of the Argos and Tiger-Cats, but kill the CFL."

This is unsubstantiated nonesense masquerading as consensus. There is no "overwhelming" evidence any such thing would happen. The CFL teams in southern Ontario are plenty strong enough to survive, as are the other franchies in the west. Some confidence in the league and the durability of its brand is in order here. I, for one, will continue to go to all the Argonaut games I can. Seeing the odd NFL game at SkyDome is fine by me.
  10. shakin my head from Toronto, Canada writes: Well now we get to see the best footballers instead of the castoffs that play in the CFL.
  11. Ned Ludd from Petaluma, Canada writes: Right now the Argos and the Ticats are not financially strong. They live by the willingness of their deep-pocketed owners to take losses. Any significant impingement on their existing revenues could have profound implications.

Look around at the ballcaps, t-shirts, and jackets you see in southern Ontario. Would you say you see more NFL goods or more CFL? If the Bills become the "home" team, local dollars will chase them. And FAR more important than the 14 year-old kids are the corporate dollars. Think they won't jump to an NFL product?

Hard core CFL fans can complain all the want about how boring the run....run...run...punt game is. That is immaterial. TV ratings say the vast majority of Canadians prefer the NFL.

So what? The western teams are strong. Toronto has no impact out there.

True if you don't mind playing in a 6 team league. (Assuming Montreal can hang in there with all the other teams thousands of kilometers away). I'm sure TSN will love throwing out wads of cash to cover a 6 team league that does not include the GTA.

So, is an NFL club in Toronto a threat to the CFL? I'd have to say yes. It is. Does it guarantee the death of the CFL? Absolutely not. But to ignore the elephant in the room is to invite being crapped all over
