Yertu Damkule from Canada writes: Ford? Calderon? Both? smitch, and anyone with 1/2 a brain, understands it's the latter. only 'fans' more interested in 'their' guy's performance are going to care who starts & who backs up. the only 'for certains' with this team is that jose can't keep playing these extended minutes - it's ok over the short-term, but the short-term has ended - and, as grange pointed out, their perhaps greatest asset (depth) is not nearly as effective without a genuine floor leader. hopefully, TJ will make it back soon, and lead the 2nd unit...that'd be where he can make the biggest dent right now, he can be 'the guy' coming off the bench, someone who, when hot, can give them instant offense & an overall lift.

John Nicholson from writes: The time is 19 games past, and counting, when Colangelo should have acted to improve the quality of TJ's replacement, as a back-up PG.
The 2nd unit/bench play has been terrible and has cost the team several wins due to the poor executation & unimaginable play of Martin/Dixon.
The media is picking on Bargnani as the big disapointment, and he is not contributing now. I however consider Colangelo's inaction to improve the team in the key PG area, as the biggest disapointment of the first half.
Whenever Calderon is not playing the team is lucky to maintain, but more likely to lose ground.- Posted 22/01/08 at 9:23 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Jim Rootham from Toronto, Canada writes: Given points scored and points allowed the Raptors are better this year. Last year they were lucky, the year before they were horribly unlucky. This year they are about right.

Yertu Damkule from Canada writes: i think mike's point may have been that even though they're technically doing better this year than last, it's unlikely that they're going to be able to go on an extended run like they did last year, especially w/ bargs continued struggles & TJ out for an unknown period of time. they have played a fairly difficult schedule so far (someone posted something recently about it being one of the toughest in the league so far), and have had their share of injuries to key guys (garbo, ford), new peices being added to the mix (delfino, kapono, moon), guys who were big contributors last season but who aren't doing much this year (well, i guess it's just bargs here), and guys who haven't made any significant strides in developement (JG, dixon, hump - though hump has shown flashes). like he said, they're too unpredictable to say with any certainty how they'll finish up...i can see them going on a tear, bargs coming back to form, TJ returning to the lineup, and them getting to 50 wins. or, i can see TJ not returning, BC being unable to find a decent backup PG, bargs continue to struggle, and bosh/jose start to break down from overuse, as they struggle to a .500 record. i guess that's why they play the games. hey mike, i like some of your recent headlines: 'the pistons are better than the raptors!!' 'the raptors are unpredictable!!' 'will bargnani ever stop sucking!!!' thanks, mr. insight. not sure what we'd without you.

Joseph Daniel from Oakville, Canada writes: Lets cut some slack to mike here Yertu , after all his FDFA fantasy team has gone into the tank. I think he is still realing from the reality of his Babcockian General Managering of his team. Just a quick thought on the goings on at MLSE. Now that the Hoops side has settled down and seems to be on a solid managerial footing, heading from the graveyard to a respectable organization, we see the other arm of MLSE mainly the game played on ice suffering and going through turmoil. What is the common factor when the raptors sucked and now that the leafs suck? None other than Mr R. Peddie. Perhaps someone at OTPP should instruct the first party to stick to selling condos and marketing. Leave the running of sports franchises to competent people. I am now looking at the whole VC wanting out scenario in a different light. Sure it was wrong for him to "mail it in on many nights" but seeing how mismanaged this organization is it kind of sheds some light as to how things went down. Babcock may not have been the best GM out there but it probably wasn't entirely his fault for making that deal.
