Maurice won't play Belak with the injuries and useless players the Leafs have?!

    Fire Maurice!!!
  2. dan vanman from vancouver, Canada writes: Bad nigth in California for Canadian teams, the Canucks lost too.

It was a little closer than this embarressment though. I am sure the Nation will fill this up with calls for heads to roll.

How about some pragmatism though. Obviously they can't fire everybody. Fire the coach now. Fire the GM at the end of the season, no matter how good of a trade he makes with Sundin.

The fans have to be patient though, if they blow it up and start over, they will be bad for a couple years. Let them be bad, as long as they move forward. Because they are going no where now!

I bet the players are dreading coming back to the Big Smoke now! The scary part? The Sharks are WAY tougher than the lowly Kings.
  3. Oh Canada from Canada writes: Can the whole organization from Peddie downward. Last place.
  4. Oakville Curmudgeon from Canada writes: Mercifully it will all be over for another year on April 5th.
  5. R Provan from Whitehorse, Canada writes: As someone who grew up worshipping those terrible teams of the Ballard era - this is the man who fired Coach Neilson then tried to get him to come back with a paper bag over his head - at this point I'm limiting my excitement to the prospect of the Leafs ending up with Stamkos or Doughty in the 2008 draft. I think it's time to get Sundin to waive his no-trade clause. But I have to say that the Star's 'experts' are way out of line. Are they really going to get two good prospects and a high draft pick or two for a half-season rent-a-player?
  6. Matthew Tessaro from sudbury, Canada writes: not a leafs fan in my own right. but, i do feel for the lowly buds more than ever this season. there are numerous calls for fire coach paul maurice. the coach isnt the problem right now. the issue with the leafs begins at the top with the owners, and most importantly, john ferguson. he should be let go asap. getting a new GM in with some time before the trade deadline to play around and shake things up would be a step in the right direction. maurice's role with the team should be evaluated only at the end of the season, hopefully after the leafs make the playoffs. poor poor buds.
  7. Alex Dunnigan from Canada writes: Why not move the entire veteran Leafs roster down and have the Marlies suit up for the next game? - couldn't get any worse and may even actually work.
  8. g h from Canada writes: How bad is it? It's so bad that even the usual assortment of Senator fans are not bothering to log on and taunt anymore. Except of course for Proud Canadian, the hypocrite who pretends that he only wants to have an intelligent discussion with other hockey fans, but continues to throw out juvenile insults.
  9. Blair . from Vancouver, Canada writes: Fergie has to realize he's toast no matter what he does. The best thing he can do for the Leafs and for himself is to realize this. He has to write off this season and start the firesale and dramatic changes. He won't be around to reap the benefits but at least if he does something which ends up working out, he might be able to convince another owner that he's worth rehiring (hoping like hell that he can convince owners that many of the problems at the Leafs were due to interference from above).

Trade Sundin, fire Maurice, put in a temporary coach and hope that a coaching change motivates the stiffs for a month - just enough to get some drafts picks come trade deadline and dump as many of the big contracts as possible. Play what few kids you have and then give the next GM the gift of salary cap room, prospects and draft picks.
  10. boo bear from saint john, Canada writes: why would anyone in their right mind spend money to go and watch this team?
  11. Clark The Mighty from Canada writes: It's simple:

    Fire Maurice.

    He can't coach.

Blake has made comments about him since day one, comparing him to Ted Nolan.

Fire Maurice. Dump Raycroft. Team will be back to 500.
  12. Mac - GLG from Canada writes: JFJ is brilliant!!
This is all part of the master plan.
  13. Peter Hells from Oakville, Canada writes:

    Is this suprising?

Can you believe the Leafs are tied for fewest wins in the national hockey league?

I told you guys at the start of the season that the Leafs were going nowhere.

    3rd straight season without playoffs.

    Cmon...Sens are where its at.
  14. Henry Allen from East Bank, Don River, Canada writes: There are no short term fixes. All solutions must start with the MLSE board accepting responsibility for their own interfering mismanagement, then proceed to getting a highly qualified GM who is given freedom to develop a 4-year plan, including a new coaching staff and dismantling the spider's web of bad long-term player contracts. But, it all must start at the top with the MLSE board. Don't hold your breath for intelligence to strike that dysfunctional group.
  15. Peter Hells from Oakville, Canada writes:

After being pounded 5-2 last night by the worst team in the NHL, the Los Angeles Kings, to drop their 10th game in 12 outings, the Leafs have sunk to a new low in terms of embarrassing the franchise in the new millennium
  16. Peter Hells from Oakville, Canada writes:

This is no longer a Toronto team destined to miss out on the playoffs for a third straight year. This now appears to be the worst Leafs team in a decade since the club went back-to-back with 68- and 69-point seasons from 1996-1998
  17. Arron D from Stan's Home, Canada writes: Cluck, i know you have drank the coolaid and are seeing things a little funny these days, but ' get rid of Raycroft and the team will 'float' up to .500'? Yathink? How? There are another 20 dogs on this team that have forgotten how to run, if they ever knew. Fire everyone of them aside from ... Sundin ( trade him for some higher quality waterbottles, or maybe some bottles with gatorade in them), Pohl, Kaberle, Toskala and maybe 1 or two others, everyone else is just in blue for the paycheck this year. There is no .500 in their vocabulary.

But you are all, always welcome on the Ottawa Stanley Cup bandwagon!! There's lots of space, since this team is a Winner and can handle all the left over blues that Toronot fans would bring.
  18. Steve Pollock from Toronto, Canada writes:

    Next up...San Jose.

I decided I'm not going to defend these Leafs anymore. Have you every seen a more lazy, gutless bunch???

I'm going to seriously look at becoming a Sens fan.
  19. Steve Pollock from Toronto, Canada writes:

    Best line of 2008

'Andrew Raycroft was burned for four goals in the first period, his defence pushed around like ragdolls. As for coach Paul Maurice changing lines, re-uniting Mats Sundin, Nik Antropov and Alexei Ponikarovsky had all the effect of re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic'
  20. Another Opinion from Toronto, Canada writes: I've been waiting for this moment for YEARS. Please... PLEASE... let them keep losing. Let management get canned. Let the coaching staff be replaced. Let the team get blown up.

All I ask is that somebody take this opportunity to gut the Leafs and make a HOCKEY TEAM!
  21. Brian Marto from derby, writes: It is going to get worse folks Buffalo Carolina and Washington
I am hoping for a massive blowout from Buffalo, this is pathetic Petty and the rest of the boardroom morons do not care about this team and it's fans all they care about is the seats being filled they are no different then Ballard , sure they are only so many points out of a playoffs but the East is weaker compared to the West, if the leafs were still playing in the Central Division they would be so far back it would not be funny ,
Changes are needed and it is not too early,
Coach and Mgr have to go the scouting has to be improved
  22. Phoenix Thorpe from Canada writes: If Blake is unhappy with the coach and loves Ted Nolan, why did the yappy 4 goal scorer sign with Toronto???? Was it the $$$$. Blake should have joined Yashin in Russia
  23. Verona Raven from United States writes: Leafs Nation.....Canadas 'team'.....CBC's ratings machine.....

    LOL!
  24. Mr. Juannabee from Canada writes: Lots of posters on here mention the 'interference' from the MLSE Board. How exactly have they been interfering? Have they stopped trades, or forced coaching/lineup decisions? I'm just wondering...
  25. Bill M from Canada writes: Mr. Juannabee from Canada writes: Lots of posters on here mention the 'interference' from the MLSE Board. How exactly have they been interfering? Have they stopped trades, or forced coaching/lineup decisions? I'm just wondering...

My guess is that some board members have favourite players, anf they sense they are fan favourites as well, so the GM is gently coaxed to sign them to long term, no trade, over paid, contracts. i.e Tie Domi a couple of years ago, McCabe, tucker, as a couple of examples. Just a guess from a hockey (not Leaf) fan.
  26. phil phil from toronto, Canada writes: OMG! please someone end this debauchery! this is too painful too watch. i have an idea though, what if we switched the marlies with the leafs and lets see how they fair?

    http://www.nhlscap.com/capnumbers/toronto.htm

look at the clowns employed by this organization...
  27. me from somewhere from Today in Sioux City, Canada writes: The King's eh?

    Two words,,,,ha ha
  28. Damien Colby from richmond hill, Canada writes: raycroft is for sale at $1. he sucks thoroughly.

the leafs is racing to the 1st place finish (from bottom up) for this season for the sole purpose of fetching the top draft picks -- a well-thought out scheme ferguson junior has smartly crafted since 3 seasons ago. we are on plan then.

    so guys, be nice.

    one pathetic diehard leaf fan.
  29. Damien Colby from richmond hill, Canada writes: ship sundin somewhere else, plse; be quick and by tomorrow. this gent deserves to be with a better team than this one. we want to see him smile again but he will only be able to do so with some other winning team. mat, we feel for you. hope the leafs will give you this favor in return. we will miss you though but we want you to be happy somewhere else. ciao.
  30. felix atance from London, Canada writes: Torontonians get the team they deserve! Until the Candian center is half empty night after night they will never get a winner. Let's face it: if it ain't broke why fix it! They're making big bucks so why kill the golden goose?
  31. D G from Canada writes: Wow, Darcy 'Speed Bag' Tucker got another meaningless goal last night. He hit double digits in points in only his 36th game. Imagine a regular NHL forward with only 10 points in 36 NHL games. How utterly pathetic is that? The only thing more pathetic is the Leaf organization doesn't have a good enough player to replace him. Leaf fans, you are in for another 5 years of mediocrity with no good prosepcts in the organization, overpriced players you can't trade and many with no trade contracts anyway.

Glad I'm not a Leafs fan!
  32. A Leading Edge Boomer from Canada writes: g h from Canada writes: How bad is it? It's so bad that even the usual assortment of Senator fans are not bothering to log on and taunt anymore.

Nor are the usual assortment of Leafs fans bothering to through barbs at the Sens. In their case it must have something to do with people who live in glass houses can't throw stones.
  33. CD W from Canada writes: I wonder if Junior players watch the standings hoping to NOT be drafted by the Leafs. If we are at that point, then the team has truly found their place in the hockey world.
  34. Martin Fedgrass from Canada writes: Hello Everyone!

Its not the coach or Ferguson who should be canned......well, okay maybe Ferguson...and the 'players' are just doing the best they can, considering they are all second-rate.

Its the ownership! Yes, thats right, those anonymous 'suits' who are playing every Toronto fan for a sucker. BArnum & Bailey would be proud of these guys.

And our only recourse is to stop going to games, stop watching them on TV and stop buying their merchandise. Until that happens, they have absolutely no desire to do anything different. Its called Supply & Demand.......
  35. Damien Colby from richmond hill, Canada writes: never mind, just let paul maurice go as well. he is running out of tricks. very average at best.
  36. R A from Canada writes: Arron, thanks but no thanks. I couldnt imagine jumping on that bandwagon and rubbing shoulders with the likes of Gidiot, Martell and the rest of the slimeball Sensidiots trolls. Enjoy your time at the top, it wont last forever...
  37. Jason Mote from Toronto, writes: Raycroft has no business in the NHL. Waive him, bring up Pogge, and throw the rest of the season for some nice draft picks.
  38. dale spinx from Canada writes: to quote patrick swayze from roadhouse..'things are going to get worse before they get better'

this is the tip of the iceberg. a new management team needs to set a plan which might have to include eating these horrible contract for the next couple years and continue to toil. success comes from stockpiling youth and eventhough the leafs stand a chance of getting a lottery pick this year, they still need several years of good drafting and high picks to rejuvinate this team. the long term success of this team can not be turned around by next october....leaf nation is finger cuffed with a bare bones farm system and a horrible team full of awful contracts.
  39. garlick toast from Canada writes: boycott, now.
  40. Art Vandelai from Canada writes: At this point, a message needs to be sent to the players on the ice. I agree with Jason Mote's suggestion for step 1 - immediately. If it continues with 3 or 4 more bad games, trade Sundin for whatever you can get and enter rebuilding mode.
  41. James C. from Chaozhou, Guangdong, China writes: looks like the guys writing these articles will need to consult a dictionary for new ways to describe the leafs. they're doing good so far though: dismal, cesspool of despair, humiliating, meekly rolling over..... LOL

    keep em coming....
  42. Canadian Built from Guelph, Canada writes: It's amazing how everyone says dump Raycroft.....does he have ONE person in a leaf uniform in front of him that helps him?

Quit making excuses leaf fans and realize that this team is the titanic, and is pathetic, and talent wise, the worst team in the league....and who's to blame?

I feel for Mats....all class and a brilliant hockey player....PLEASE look to the future Leafs and trade him for some draft picks and some good young players.

Get rid of every high salary...EVERYONE.....get rid of the entire management team, scouts (name one good draft pick in the last 15 years???), and start over.....I would love to see a successful leaf team in my life time and i'm 37....because as of right now, there is absolutely no hope of a successful team unless 28 of the 30 teams tanks.

I think it's time to bring back Albert and the paper bags!
  43. Matthew H from Canada writes: Didn't the Leafs trade their first round pick for Toskala? If so, if they finish at the bottom of the standings, that pick goes to San Jose, and Toronto can't get a shot at someone like Stamkos. Even if they get a first rounder for Sundin, it will be a higher pick, as that team is likely going to the playoffs (and thus will not pick in the top half of the draft. Am I right about this?
  44. David Moyer from GTA north, Canada writes: teachers pension admin - please sell asap!
note to new owner..keep the blue and white colours (for marketing you can associate 'blueberry' liberally).
  45. Frank Godfrey from Canada writes: Maybe it's the internet, I don't know, but in 50 years as a Toronto supporter I've never seen this level of general disgust among Leaf fans, even during Ballard's best years. The only recourse for the fan is to boycott MLSE, at least as far as the Leafs are concerned. Also, this a Leafs thread - all you nitwits who get your jollies trashing the great city of Toronto, get lost !
  46. Super Troll from Canada writes: Ho hum this is getting exhausting trashing the Leafs after every loss- what are we up to now- close to 30?

I guess the good news is no Fleas got beat up last night.
  47. Super Troll from Canada writes: Frank- 'great' city of Toronto eh- that's almost as funny as watching the Maple Fairies trying to play hockey!
  48. Wally Grisold from Toronto, Canada writes: While I was getting set to watch the game last night Joe Bowen mentioned that the last time the leafs were in LA they played at the Great Western Forum, this was the first time for the Leafs to be at the Staples Arena. I wonder if that is (GWF) where they were last night because sure as hell is hot they were not at the Staples Centre, just a pile of dead Leaves at the Centre ready to be blown away in the wind.
  49. Frank Godfrey from Canada writes: What's a Super Troll ?
  50. Scream Jerry from Canada writes: Globe: Do Torontonians even care about the Leafs anyore? I'd wager they don't. That means the rest of the country doesn't care about them either. You can relegate them to the Obit pages.
  51. Alfie Didn't Choke.... Like Really... from Canada writes: I don't even have the will to type insults, all pointless, along with the leafs on this roadtrip. 'Oh we have injuries...' 'Hey we can still get to the playoffs and then anything can happen...'
  52. rob davidson from Bowmanville, Canada writes: More like a Royal Flush.
  53. Super Troll from Canada writes: Redlight Raycroft blamed the loss on 'bad bounces'. Sounds like a team digging its own grave to me. Similar to Toskala the night before 'I felt pretty good- saw the puck well' - after sporting a .782 save percentage.

    BWAHAHAHAHA
  54. Larfing Outloud from Virgin Islands (British) writes: It makes you pine for the good ole' Ballard days.
  55. S.U. Vee from Canada writes: NEIL SMITH WHERE ARE YOUUUUUUUU!!!!! Boy I wonder how all the people that bought Leafs T.V. feel. It's bad enuff that they still have season ticket holders and tards that will still buy the tickets to the games, but to actually subscribe to the T.V. package? Well they're playing like a team waiting for someone to get fired. Remember last year when they kinda moped thru the season then with less than 2 weeks to go, got all fired up and looked decent?? That's because the players were worried for their big paychecks. Anyone wanna bet the same thing happens again? Even if they fire Maurice and JFJ do you honestly think the boneheads of MLS&E are capable of creating a winning operation?? I DON'T THINK SOOOOOOOO...
  56. Martin Fedgrass from Canada writes: Back in the Ballard days, it was better only because he was so visible and it was easy to hate and despise him for ruining the team. The current owners are resolute in their desire to remain invisible - so Leaf fans have no-one to focus their rage on except and they must then re-direct it to the products of the ownership - Ferguson, Maurice and the 'players'.

It is time we called out these buffoons in monkey suits and ask them to step aside and give ownership to people who actually CARE about hockey in Toronto....and Canada. Leaf owners.....get out...get out...get out! You are horrible people.
  57. Martin Fedgrass from Canada writes: I really must edit my postings more carefully before submitting - sorry for the last one......the sentence should have read 'so Leaf fans have no-one to focus their rage on and must re-direct it to the products of the ownership - Ferguson, Maurice and the 'players'. '
  58. Craig Houston from Newmarket, Canada writes: I've been a leaf fan all my life and can remember the 60's (I'm 56) and have never jumped off the bandwagon despite the dismal times. I've been angry and have laughed at their decisions and results but, I'm still here.
They must now realize they must totally rebuild and that includes from the top dog down to the players. We need an owner who wants to win. We need a manager and scouting staff that knows how to build (all be it slowly) a winning team. Finally, we as leaf fans and this includes the media, must put up with what will be difficult times as we put our trust in the new staff who will slowly build our beloved Buds into respectability. Toronto has the best fans in the world. We've put up with the bad times and must now wait a few years longer. But I'm willing to wait. BUT THEY MUST START NOW!
  59. Bill Elliott from Toronto, Canada writes: Methinks Leafie fans are getting exactly what they pay through the nose for! By the way, ever see any bloody noses, etc, when they pan the Leaf bench this year? Not exactly a Gary Roberts bunch! Too comfy, too pretty, too well paid!
  60. Super Troll from Canada writes: Craig Houston- 'Toronto has the 'best' sports fans in the world'- shouldn't that read 'stupidest'. If you continue to support that silly pretend team then why should they change.

Leaf fans just don't get it.
  61. Super Troll from Canada writes: S U VEE- Leafs TV is on basic digital cable now- no subscriptions. I guess there weren't enough pigeons that signed up.
  62. Rolly Beethoven from Canada writes: From an accounting viewpoint the Leafs are a perfect example of how a business should be run - always sold out. So as long as ticket sales remain bouyant the current owners see no reason to change anything. Just keep the expenses low and 'If it aint broke don't fix it'. On the other side of the coin the Leafs are a disaster, so if nothing changes everything will remain the same. Go figure!!
  63. asm oak bay from Canada writes: How Pat Quinn must be laughing. He worked miracles with much the same bunch that now languish near the bottom of the standings. Mr. Ferguson made his first big mistake by letting Mr. Quinn go. The latter has forgotten more about hockey that the former and the current coach will ever know.
  64. Ryan Hickman from Canada writes: Here are the steps to rebuild this organization:

    1. Fire the GM, fire the coach and blow up this organization. Start from scratch and begin building a minor league system of prospects.
    2. Publicly apologize to Leaf fans for the disgrace this franchise has turned into.
    3. Cancel all corporate seats and offer tickets for sale to real hockey fans who have had to sit and watch their team on television because tickets are gobbled up for corporate smoozing. How many Leaf fans do you know who have never been to a game???
    4. Refund all those who signed up for Leafs TV.
    5. Lower ticket prices so that families can come and watch the team play.

Wishful thinking I know but one can always dream.
  65. Sher Bear from North of Sensville, Canada writes: Over the holidays my son's friends went to the TO/Ranger game and tried to get tickets outside for nosebleed seats. Right before puckdrop, the opportunists would not budge on $150 per seat, so they went to a bar. WHY DO THEY DO THIS? - BECAUSE THEY CAN!!! People will pay outrageous prices for this silly team, they have been doing it for decades. I'm sure Leaf fans are good people, but seriously I'd be getting tired of this sick joke. Go Sens!!!
  66. Frank Godfrey from Canada writes: One thing is crystal clear - it's the players who lace up the skates, and they have lost interest in playing.
  67. Allan Martel from Canada writes: This just in:

The Transportation Safety Board announced this morning that it has discovered the source of the aircraft free fall that caused a dozen injuries on the Air Canada flight from Victoria to Toronto last night.

Apparently, the aircraft drifted slightly south of its designated flight path and encountered the turbulence surrounding the Toronto Maple Leafs who were in Los Angeles at the time.

Investigators noted that four first period LA Kings goals apparently sucked the wind out of the Leafs sails and that the ensuing talent void sent shock waves directly north into Canadian air space.

Fortunately there were no serious injuries on board the Air Canada flight although there are early and unconfirmed reports about hurt pride and damaged egos in and around Los Angeles.

Air Canada announced the suspension of all flights into San Jose this weekend as further unpredictable turbulence is expected.
  68. Ryan Campbell from Canada writes: Matthew H.....

I believe the Laffs keep their first rounder, but their secon round pick (which will likely be a top 35 selection) goes to Phoenix to complete the blockbuster Yannik Perrault trade from last season.
  69. Rolly Beethoven from Canada writes: The only solution is for the toothless NHL to give another franchise to the GTA. That would make the Leaf owners squirm. How about a 25,000 seat facility in York Region with a brand new NHL team, I bet it would be sold out in a heart beat. Just imagine the games when the Yorkies (for want of a better name) and the Leafs get together for the playoffs, though based on the current situation with the Leafs that would be a number of years off. In fact it would require the Yorkies take the Stanely cup a couple of times before the Leafs owners would get off their butts to put a winner together. One can only dream - but I believe it is a viable solution, no parking issues either.
  70. Alex Dunnigan from Canada writes: Are the corporate seats for the Leafs still valuable? Really .. for the Leafs I'd feel like I was being taken out to MacDonalds rather than to a nice restaurant where I would get good food and service. I'd think long and hard about doing business with anyone who gave me corporate seats to see the Leafs play.
  71. Alberto Bayo from Canada writes: My mates who are Leafs fans have a glazed look in their eyes and seem to be mumbling incoherintly as they wander about aimlessly. Someone please take the Maple Leafs out behind the shed and put them out of their misery.
  72. William Borlase from Canada writes: Complaining about Leaf ownership is like complaining about General Motors or Chrysler or Ford. The only thing you can do is quit buying the product. Since corporations buy most of the tickets - they won't. Since most real hockey fans - Leaf fanatics too - can't afford the tickets anyway - they won't. The Leaf nation is in a conundrum. What do you do? Fire John? Fire Paul? Cheer for Ottawa? Cheer for Montreal? It's a real heart wrenching problem.
  73. Allan Martel from Canada writes:
Analysis of last night's Leafs' fiasco:

John Pohl played only slightly more than 4 minutes but ended up with a minus 2 rating for the game.

Ponikarowsky played exactly one second on the penalty killing unit.

LA Kings scored 5 times on a total of 18 shots in the game.

    This just in -

Paramount Pictures filmed the Leafs - Kings game as part of their new deal with MLSE to produce a horror film for release in Toronto area theatres during this year's Stanley Cup run by the Ottawa Senators.

The new film has the working title Raycroft and is described by studio publicists as a semi-documentary. When queried about what genre this was, a Paramount spokesman said it meant half real and half unbelievable, much as in the half-hearted efforts of the Leafs.

The new film also stars Pamela Anderson and Dolly Parton. The Paramount publicist described their roles as emblematic of the Leafs performance thus far and predictive of their future. When asked to elaborate further, the publicist was heard to have mumbled something about the Leafs going tits up but your erstwhile reporter at the scene is not able to confirm this comment.
  74. wayne powers from saskatoon, writes: At first I though hmm the 2 worst teams in hockey played and the worst of the worst lost. But I'm wrong a bad team in the NHL beat the worst team in hockey. Does the NHL do what they do in Timbits and adjust the score so the losers don't feel real bad about the score.
  75. R A from Canada writes: Scott, do you really think Martel is any different than The Gidiot? I dont think so...
  76. Bobby the K from Bogarttown, Canada writes: If it walks like a duck And quacks like a duck, It could probably beat the Leafs.
  77. Allan Martel from Canada writes: RA

The major difference is that I offer analysis and humour while never, I repeat never, attacking other posters personally.

That's an important distinction and one that distinguishes me from the trolls (at least in my opinion).
  78. Alex Spicer from Canada writes: I love the fact that hockey is of a cyclical nature. It may take 15 years but eventually the Sens will have a season and team like Toronto has this year. And when that magical season happens I will take all of Gidiot/Super Troll/Martells comments, change the team names from Leafs to Sens and repost them on the Sens boards. I just hope for their sake that the Sens bring them home that cup they've been dreaming about in the meantime or all this winning they're doing will mean precisley nothing. Why is it that Sens fans have to post on here? I don't see any Canucks/Flames/Oilers or even Montreal fans posting on here with glee. Does it have something to do with the mantra that regardless how far you make it in the playoffs or how many presidents trophies you've won your team will never be as loved as the Leafs? Is it an infiriority complex? Is it the fact that you know you'll lose to Detroit in the final if you even make it that far? You choose to deflect the attention from your inevitable defeat by laughing and trolling comments about a team that despite its losing record still enjoys 50 times the fan support then Ottawa will ever have. Oh wait, I know, you're all still mad that we didn't all get behind your precious Senaturds come finals time last year.
  79. Super Troll from Canada writes: Rolly Beethoven- BWAHAHAHA!

First of all, Yorkies are a small, yappy whipet-like dog. Tucker would be a perfect fit.

Second, York region is populated by 'new' Canandians now isn't it?? A cricket or soccer team would sell out, hockey- not so sure.

    The GTA is a joke.
  80. Alex Spicer from Canada writes: Martel you do know there were serious injuries on that flight yesterday right? You sum up the level of class that exudes from the Senator organization.
  81. Rolly Beethoven from Canada writes: It is true corporations are the major box and seat holders. I worked once for a corporation who today still has a box at the ACC. Getting customers to show up at games was a total exercise in futility, usually the box was empty unless the local politicians wanted to feed at the trough again. Though in view of the fact the box was sold, Leaf owners could care less of the quality of entertainment they provide. The important issues being the $$ generated by the sale of tickets and boxes. We need another team!
  82. Michael Slavitch from Canada writes: You know it's bad when Senators fans come here feeling sorry for you Leaf fans.
  83. Super Troll from Canada writes: Spicer- HA HA yeah class- this coming from a club that features Tie Domi, Darcy Tucker, Facewash Sundin, Crosscheck Kubina etc. etc. blah blah. You Leaf fans have the team you deserve.

'15 years from now' ah ok - just wait! 15 years from now we'll be better than you! Nice one!

No inferiority complex at all- it's called kicking you when you're down, rubbing your face in it, rubbing salt in the wounds. Same thing idiot Leaf fans do by cheering for a team from suburban California to beat the Sens, just because they're jealous of our success. What goes around comes around!
  84. R A from Canada writes: Trust me Martel, you and The Gidiot are the same animal. The intentions are the same, the delivery is different.
  85. Allan Martel from Canada writes: Mr Spicer - since you asked, and only because you asked....

Several comments regarding your post require further elaboration:

First, all 11 passengers sent to hospital last night off the Air Canada flight were treated for minor bruises and released.

Second, you assume that there are only Sens fans on this post but the most devestating comments come from within the Leaf Nation itself - not to mention Toronto media.

Third, I support good hockey and this means the Canucks, the Flames, the Sens and the Habs. I will see an Oilers game early next week in Edmonton and then a Canucks game in Vancouver in the next week.

I support any and all Canadian teams in the playoffs. It is only the Leafs Nation which (not unlike the Yankees of baseball) are tied to one team with no understanding of nor respect for any others.

You and your ilk may be Leafs fans but there are many who would question whether you are hockey fans.
  86. Bobby the K from Bogarttown, Canada writes: I think one reasons people keep going to Leaf games is because they are stuck with seasons tickets, and aren't big hockey fans anyway. What I don't get is why the CBC keep showing Leaf games, when fans of the game would rather watch a better team.
  87. Phil Clements from north bay, Canada writes: The only redemption for JFJ, a mastermind trade. Stajan, Andropoff, and Ponikarovski, for Crosby, Ovechkin, and Lecavalier
  88. Super Troll from Canada writes: If Leaf fans are hockey fans- did any of you watch the Habs/Bruins game last night? Now THAT was a game. Habs, Bruins are both dangerous this year. Leafs should be demoted to the ECHL.
  89. Allan Martel from Canada writes: RA

Trust me when I say that I have been a competitive curler for many years and I learned long ago that the delivery is everything.
  90. Peter Stern from Mississauga, Canada writes: After last nights game, I wish I had a dog so I could take the dog for a walk and let it poo on the steps of the ACC. I'm hoping the Leafs end the season in the 60 point range or less. That should ensure a thorough housecleaning. The only thing we can do as fans is to call the companies that spend money advertising on the Leafs, and ask them to pull their advertising or face a boycott of their products from disgruntled Leaf fans.
  91. Cyrus Of Persia from Canada writes: Gad, you can't run a hockey team by committee. Fergie has to get board approval for hockey operations? Does Maurice also have to get several signed memos before every line change too? He might as well, since that is the culture of mud he's stuck in.

The Leafs are a bureaucratic bore. The whole organization is immobilized by the business side, and that paralyzing influence percolates down to ice level.

This team has a failure identity, and it is now playing according to that ID.
  92. R A from Canada writes: This crap I hear over and over about Leafs fan not being hockey fans is absolutely rediculous.

I am a Leafs fan and I watched every playoff game I could last year and my team was not invloved...because we dont support those women in Ottawa (and in my case because of all the Sensidiot trolls) you say we arent hockey fans. Get over yourselves, will ya.

I will be watching the playoffs again this year without my team involved and rooting for the Wings to roll over that team of women.
  93. Alex Spicer from Canada writes: You know I cheered for the Oilers and the Flames in their cup runs. I even rather see Montreal win then an american team. I think the problem with the finals last year was that more Canadians played for Anaheim the Ottawa. Two players from Anaheim have local connections to the area where I live, one even does business with my employer. It made a lot more sense to cheer for the ducks. Plus after personally witnessing some of the classy manouvers pulled by the Sens last year (the habs logo on a sinking ship shown on the jumbotron at a Sens game the weekend after Bob Gainey's daughter was swept off the Pickton Castle) it made more sense to cheer for Anaheim. As to the Air Canada thing, your telling me it's allright to make fun of things when people are injured in the process? Do you have a level of injury that must be sustained before it becomes unacceptable? Like loss of left arm and right leg is taboo but if it's only the arm well then it's allright? Nice!
  94. Sol Roger from Canada writes: The Leafs are a cursed team. To the fans luck, they will finish bloody ninth in the East, sign Sundin to three more years, extend contracts of Steen and Wellwood for years to come and give them NTC, keep Pooge with the Marlies, and we will have to endure Toskala and Raycroft for the next 4 years. After that, loop infinitum all over again with underachievers and NTCs.
  95. kevin mcgee from UITE UIEU, United States writes: TO ALL LEAF FANS BOYCOTT ANY SPORTS TEAM ASSOCIATED WITH MLSE IT SURE WOULD BE GREAT THAT SOME OF THE GREAT LEAF HATERS IN A MOMENT OF KINDNESS SUGGEST SOMETHING CONSRUCTIVE INSTEAD OF SOME OF THE ** WE READ ON A DAILY BASIS

  97. R A from Canada writes: Alex Spicer...'(the habs logo on a sinking ship shown on the jumbotron at a Sens game the weekend after Bob Gainey's daughter was swept off the Pickton Castle)' Are you kidding me? Did they do that?
  98. Frank Godfrey from Canada writes: Super Troll, I just read one of your posts on the Senators - Sabres thread, ' Not sure why Leaf fans bother trashing the Sens...makes me shake my head '. Indeed, it makes me wonder, too. It also makes me wonder why you spend so much of your time trashing the Toronto Maple Leafs, as well. You know, there are treatments available for this kind of obsessive behavior.

  100. Trilly B from Canada writes: View the season as a bunch of best-of-seven series, and the Leafs just lost their seventh of eight.

I guess we Leaf fans have been a bit spoiled for a number of years, though mainly just with great goaltending. Not that Toskala's bad. Put an average team (hmm... Sharks?) in front of him and he'll steal a bunch. But the Leafs aren't even average.

Hasn't been this bad since before Cujo arrived in town almost ten years ago.
  101. Devil Bud from shwa', Canada writes: Ok, Ok....Leafs are looking like a horror movie, etc. They are swimming with a few other disasters at the bottom, and will most likely not have a shot at the playoffs. Being a Leaf fan, I acknowledge the reality of the situation. As for a few other dumb comments. First, the whole season is sold out before it even begins, so people who say 'boycott' are ridiculous. Every season begins with hope, and this season was no different for the Leafs. On paper, they looked pretty decent. With all do respect to Montreal fans, the majority of sports writers figured that they and Edmonton would be the only two Canadian teams watching the playoffs from the sidelines. So, that being said, you can't blame Leaf fans for being disappointed, or for every game being sold out. Secondly, for the Senator fans that whine and cry that 'Leaf Nation' never supported them, or any other Canadian team during their Stanley Cup run....nonesense. Leaf fans fully supported Calgary and Edmonton, because their teams and fans were humble and ecstatic to be where they were. Sens fans on the other hand, and some players, counted their trip to the finals as a foregone conclusion, because they incessantly claim to be the best. On a side note, Sens fans could use last year as a learning experience. I lived in Ottawa for ten years, up until this summer. Your 'Sens Mile' was a dismal attempt at looking like a certain other team's 'Mile'. If Sens fans want to become respected and backed up by the country, if they make it deep into the playoffs, then learn a little from the past. If you make it deep, maybe you will become 'Canada's Team', but only if Canada respects you or even feels that you represent what Canadian hockey mania is all about.
  102. Calvin Alexander from Smith, Canada writes: I really want to say, I am glad to see the Maple Leafs going down. I am really so sick of having them on every Saturday night on CBC, and love seeing them slide down. I wish the CBC would change their broadcast schedule to allow Montreal be shown accross the country and keep the Toronto game in the Toronto area where it should be kept.

As a Habs fan I relish in seeing the Maple Leafs going down, now only if the CBC would drop them and pick up the Canadiens, life would be better. I have written the CBC on numerous occasions about this, and they written me back and told me they won't change. So I just have to hope for the next best thing...... Toronto Maple Leafs losing and Montreal Canadiens winning which is going on now a days.
  103. Peter Stern from Mississauga, Canada writes: Given that the Leaf management board only care about the bottom line, the only solution is contact the companies that spend advertising money on the Leafs and ask them to pull their advertising... or possibly face a boycott of their products by disgruntled Leaf fans. Fan protests won't get the the Leaf board attention... but I bet Ad dollars disappearing will get their attention.
  104. Super Troll from Canada writes: Godfrey- because it makes sense to trash the Leafs- they're the worst team in hockey. We're the best. Get it? Fans of the last place team trashing the first place team sets a new high bar for the word 'stupid'.

Not that complicated- even for a Leaf fan.
  105. Alex Spicer from Canada writes: R A, I wish I was making it up. I'll try to link the Citizen article from the next day in here. They did apparently reprimand the person responsible but still.....
  106. tom h from Edmonton, Canada writes: Isn't it time the CBC started showing Habs and Sens games out west, instead of forcing the god-awful Leafs down our throats? Some of us would like to watch an exciting Canadian team.
  107. Liam Smith from Canada writes: Super Troll: Fans of the first place team trashing the last place team gives new meaning to the phrase 'small wiener'.
  108. felix atance from London, Canada writes: Psychologists and psychanalists will have to study the meaning of the word 'disgust' when it comes to Leaf fans, an intellectually challenged bunch to be sure. They are disgusted with their team but they fight to get in the arena to watch the slaughter...
  109. Bobby S from Toronto, Canada writes: Boys remember it took the Red Sox 90 years before they won a championship and now they are the toast of the baseball world.

Here's to our kids....er grandkids celebrating a Leaf Stanley Cup
  110. Super Troll from Canada writes: You're right Liam- sort of like men beating up on women I guess. The Leafs are the women btw.

I sort of feel bad about it... but not really considering it's the Leafs and their drone fans.
  111. Frank Godfrey from Canada writes: Troll, you've got a really good hockey team in Ottawa. Not enough for you ?
  112. L. W. from Greener Pastures, Canada writes: Love all these fire Maurice postings. And from the same posters who, not so long ago were demanding that Quin get the axe, and Maurice be brought up from the Marlies. A coach, no matter who it is can only work with the players supplied by management.
  113. Liam Smith from Canada writes: Possibly. I'm a flames fan. But I've always found it funny that when I'm at a Sens game vs. the leafs or the habs that suddenly, half of those sens fans are missing or in other jerseys.
  114. Trilly B from Canada writes: Felix, do a little reading about brand loyalty. It has nothing to do with intelligence.
  115. Verona Raven from United States writes: The Rangers were loafing around like this a few years ago, then management had enough and basically blew up the team. Jagr was one of the few survivors.

The Leafs need to face reality...even Ray Bourque requested (and was granted) a trade from the Bruins when they were in the proverbial toilet. Sundin needs to go....let them get some young bodies or picks. This is going to be a multi-year project to bring this franchise back to respectibility. This team is dysfunction junction and needs a purge on many fronts.
  116. Super Troll from Canada writes: RA- the Lord of Copying & Pasting. Calling the Sens 'women'. Where have you been the last few years lass? Wathcing the Leafs is like watching WTN. In fact I heard WTN is going to start carrying their games. Incredible.
  117. Chris Eaton from Fredericton, NB, writes: What makes the standings even more telling is that the Leafs have the most loser points of any team in the NHL. Take those away and they're dead last.

Until the fans stop watching this bunch of losers, management will keep giving us the same bunch of losers. Thats really all there is to it. I stopped watching them on TV a while ago. Thankfully CBC is carrying Ottawa/Detroit this week, so I can sit down tomrrow night and see two hockey teams play.
  118. Harold Ballard from Canada writes: Enough is enough, you guys never knew you had it so good when I owned the team. Stop your whinning, you all got what you deserved.
  119. R. M. from Regina, Canada writes: During the all star break. Maurice gone. Ferguson gone. Sundin gone.
  120. Paul Hume from Canada writes: Devil Bud from shwa', hmm first of all, I cheer for any Canadian team. Second, I think that a lot of the venom spewed by SENS fans to leaf fans is due to the fact that the majority of leafs fans can't even acknowledge that the SENS are a good team. I'd be the first one congratulating the leafs for doing well, but I can't even have a decent hockey conversation with most leaf fans about hockey or the general state of the so called battle of Ontario. I brought up hockey in conversation during many of the parties leading up to Christmas this year and all I ever hear out of leaf fan's mouths is stuff like this, 'You'll never win anything, your playoff run sucks, the leafs will always beat you in the playoffs.' After hearing this, and having tried to really discuss hockey it becomes apparent that the leaf fans that I run into spew as much venom back and forth. So please don't come down all high and mighty about what wonderful people the leaf fans are compared to the SENS fans. Before December I was hoping that the leafs make it in, but I've had enough one sided conversations since December to wish that they never make it into the playoffs again and continue to suffer for years to come. I know that there are some good leaf fans out there who genuinely like hockey, I just never seem to run into them. I guess leaf and SENS fans fighting and throwing taunts is as inevitable as cat's and dogs getting along....not very likely. Sorry leaf fans, I've met too many bad ones recently. Oh and blow up the team if you want any chance of doing anything for the foreseeable future. Something's gotta give with this team.
  121. Ryan M from Ottawa, Canada writes: R A - unfortunately, it's true. I was pretty upset when they showed it. It was a huge oversight, and it was incredibly ill-timed, but I don't think they had the intention of hinting towards Gainey's daughter in any way. Regardless, it was a ridiculous oversight (how does that actually get looked over?) and an embarrassing moment as a Sens fan to say the least.

    Cheers.
  122. Carlos Costa from Ontario, Canada, writes: Peddie will not fire anyone until the Leafs come back from their road trip, and same applies with Ferguson firing Maurice. The problem of Leaf fans (and I am one of them) is that we still support the team even when they are not performing. We continue to buy tickets, we buy Leafs TV, we buy their merchandise and we watch the hocket games on the sports networks and CBC on Saturday nights. The Maple Leafs are so entrenched in the culture of Toronto that everyone has an opinion of them. It's a huge windfall for the Teacher's Pension plan because they make money year after year after year, which is fine with them. At some point MLSE will have to do something drastic through a firing or a plan that will help calm down the fans. While Peddie and MLSE are all about making money, they surely don' t want a public relations nightmare. For this reason only will they make changes soon. Why else would Peddie join the Leafs on a road trip? There's pressure now from the organization that even Peddie will be forced to react. The real show stopper is that fans need an alternative - A team in Kitchener, York Region, Hamilton that will force the Leafs into competing for their fans. OR STOP BUYING TICKETS..
  123. Allan Martel from Canada writes: Carlos

Do the letters IAMAW mean anything special to you?
  124. Ryan M from Ottawa, Canada writes: Alex Spicer - feel free to cheer for whoever you wish. Understandable if a couple of the Ducks have local connections, but the whole 'Ducks are more Canadian because they have a couple more Canadian players' logic is really outplayed. And ridiculous, if you think about it. Toronto media at its finest. But I understand why you wouldn't cheer for the Sens...similar to why I would never cheer for the leafs. But at least admit that it's because you just genuinely detest the Sens. It's alright, you won't hurt our feelings.
