  2. Roger S from Canada writes: Great !

The news like this really shows some guys in this board really no clue about bastketball. Jose now a honorable mention for possible NBA all star participant, great recognition!!!

Where is the guy who ranked Jose next to Felton (who?)? Shame on you.

where is the guy who insist TJ is starter now matter how well Jose played? Get some fresh air!
  3. Roger S from Canada writes: This is funny.

Doug Smith, the writer for Toronto Star, who was usually doing a55-kissing job for TJ Ford. Yesterday, suddendy, he said Jose is the third best point guard in the East (behind Billups and Kidd).

    I am laughing at him.
  4. Roger S from Canada writes: If you have the third best point guard in the East from your team, why you always said TJ should start?
  5. Yertu Damkule from Canada writes: hey, rog, missed you around here...where have you been? i guess it's harder talking up your boy & how much more valuable he is to the team in terms of wins when they, well, are losing. once again, you've (at least partially) missed the point...i can't recall a single poster who was actually critical of jose's game, yet you've equated 'TJ support' with 'Jose criticism.' it's simply a matter that some of us on here realize the importance of having both TJ & Jose in games that gives the raps an advantage over other teams (perhaps the most obvious realization in history, but whatever). he (jose) has indeed played very well, but the fact that he doesn't have a reliable backup is one of the main reasons they've hit this funk. what he was able to do with the second unit has an even greater impact when you see how awful they can be without him. we can quibble & argue over who should start & who should come off the bench, but in the end, it doesn't really matter (IMO, not that it matters, jose will likely continue to start for some time after TJ comes back - but at some point, if/when TJ is back to full health - mental & physical - he will resume the starter's role). the ONLY thing that matters is wins/losses, and unfortunately, until TJ comes back (or a reliable backup PG can be found), we're probably going to be witness to more of the latter. but hey, you can take solace in the fact that jose is starting to get some pub south of the border, i'm sure that'll make you feel better about the losses...that is, if you care about losses at all. part of me gets the notion that you don't particularly care whether they win or lose, & that as long as jose plays well, you're happy. have fun with that. oh, and the likelihood that jose is actually added to the allstar roster is pretty remote - i can't imagine them taking 3 PG's, and he's not supplanting billups or kidd, whether he deserves to or not. but at least you'll be able to complain about his 'snubbing.'
  6. JOHN PALANDRA from Toronto, Canada writes: i seriously cant remember anyone criticizing calderon as well Roger. Why cant we all just agree that we need both of them in order to succeed? The evidence supporting that arguement is overwhelming considering the production their getting out of the backup pg and the production their getting from the second unit, both were our secret weapons last year and this year they're nowhere to be found.
  7. C Ta from Canada writes: Remember Jose's been playing with two fingers taped together for the past couple of weeks. I think his 1st quarter turnover against the 76'ers -- when he couldn't hang on to the ball -- can be attributed to the somewhat limited mobility in his hand, but it obviously hasn't slowed him down much at all.

I think what I like best about Calderon is his unselfish play. As any great player does, he makes everyone around him better.
  8. Big Cayman from South Toronto, Canada writes: Hey Roger S,
LOL mvp, everyone around here appreciates Jose despite the Raptors losing games with him at the point. So because of his efficiency ratings he is better than Nash, or Billups, though half his numbers this year are with the second team against second liners? He isn't even better than Rondo who schooled him because of his pedestrian defense. He is still a good point guard but not even close to MVP. Sound like you've been eating at Dick's a little too much.
  9. Flinton Rice from Toronto, Canada writes: I think its funny when people want to make Jose "the most valuable one" and TJ "the overrated one". Look at the Raptors record - they are just over .500. We were expecting a lot more this year and we have three very good new players - Kapono, Delfino and Moon. I think that something is missing and that something is TJ Ford. We need both pg's to be a great team like we were in the second half last year.

Also, a bit of competion between Jose and TJ would be great and I strongly feel that CB4 plays better with TJ. That being said, I think Jose is incredible and should be voted to the all-star team hands down. It's amazing how well he protects the ball.
  10. emoncada Toronto from Toronto, Canada writes: I assume we are all rooting for Raptors (that's why we are in this thread)... can we once and for all stop the argument about TJ and Jose??!! both of them are needed in the team and who ever starts is really on smitch call. it's a shame that raptors fan cannot agree and enjoy that they have 2 good PG in the league. if these 2 PG play together the team will be benifitting from their presence. now it is up to the coach how to maximize and use their skills in the floor. Roger S, BigC, Yertu and IAMTheOne let's stop the argument about who is better PG... and start enjoying the fact that we have 2 good PG in the league.
  11. clifford cummings from Fredericton, Canada writes: I agree----we need both guards! Let the "bosses" run the team and lets all just enjoy!
  12. Luke P from Vancouver, Canada writes: Calderon's great, but he couldn't defend a stop sign. Just like Nash, he can run an offense like nobody's business, but he can't stay in front of the vast majority of PGs in this league. Check this out at 82games.com (really neat site, btw):

    http://www.82games.com/0708/0708TOR.HTM

It rates Ford ahead of Calderon in most of these statistical categories, which include differentials of points scored on and off the court. The data seems to suggest that while Calderon performs better on offense, Ford does better when you include BOTH offense and defense.

In other words, it looks nice when Calderon puts up 16 pts and 13 assists, but it's a wash when he allows the other PG to put up 24 and 10. In my book, the Ford-Calderon platoon gets the best of both offense and defense, which is why they work so well together.
  13. Big Cayman from South Toronto, Canada writes: Excellent post Luke P!
  14. Roger S from Canada writes: Ouch!

Based on so-called Roland Rating, Martin is our second best player next to Bosh!!!! hahaha, I wouldn't agree with this. I don't think anybody would trust this stats, I am still a little bit surprised Big Cayman even concurs (not totally actually from history of his posts).

Jose can't defense, however TJ Ford is not too far away from him. Remember last year TJ got burned by Kidd in every position, one-on-one back down in playoffs? It was painful ! Actually Jose did better jobs than TJ in that particualar situation. TJ Ford is too small, he has trouble with most guards in this league.

The point is, Jose Calderon is one of the elite PGs in the league already, I rank him around 5th of all point guards. The reality is he is our best point guard and second best player. TJ Ford is NOT even close to Jose's game. I don't mean to get rid of TJ, but he and Sam got to realize TJ is not the man on the team, don't try too hard to mess up the team. Come up from the bench and play within control, TJ Ford will be a solid contributor.
  15. Yertu Damkule from Canada writes: emoncada - re-read my post. if you can point out where i was critical of either PG, please, let me know.
  16. Big Cayman from South Toronto, Canada writes: Roger S, TJ is a far better defender than Jose, and defense is 50% of the game. D is Jose achilles heal and will prevent him achieving greatness unless he improves this AND ups his assist production. His repetoire of passing in average, but I would agree that on most nights he is very adept, even better than most at taking care of the ball. Jose has no answer from many point guards in the league when he's struggling with his offnsive game, unlike, for example Nash, who doesn't need to score to have a pivotal role in a win. Chris Bosh is the pivotal player on the Raps. While your enthusiasm for Jose as a fan is fine with me (and probably everyone else too), its your delusional perception, and thickheadedness in spite of reality that the Raps are better with both PG and the great decision to showcase each PG in their proper context which you are overtly unhappy with that turn your opinions into the ramblings and rants. You even start playing the blame game, pathetic, and desparate. It's like you scour every news article and every stat only to try and prove the ONLY point you ever make. You need to chill out and talk about something else. Who could possibly take you seriously?
  17. Ivan Yao from Markham, Canada writes: Ford- he thinks he doesn't need to improve, decided to forego shooting lessons from a top shooting coach. Just about right otherwise he'd put up even more shots than pass the ball.

Calderon- Dishes out 10 assists, infectious energy and even gatorade to his team during half time! This guy is all about Team!

Do Calderon a favour, put him as a 'write-in' on your all-star ballot, while you're at it, cross out Ford.
