CALGARY Brianne Jenner scored twice and added an assist as Canada defeated Germany 10-1 Tuesday at the inaugural world women's under-18 hockey championship.
Tara Watchorn scored twice and recorded three points, Marie-Philip Poulin scored once and set up two others, Camille Dumais scored once and had three points, Catherine White scored a short-handed goal, while Carolyne Prevost, Bailey Bram and Chelsea Karpenko rounded out the scoring.
Maike Hanke had Germany's lone goal, while netminding duties were shared by Julia Zorn and Janine Steeger who faced 54 Canadian shots.
London, Ont., native Amanda Mazzotta earned the win for Team Canada by stopping eight shots in her first start of the tournament.
Jenner opened the scoring 4:20 into the first period on the power-play by capitalizing on a German giveaway and firing the puck through Zorn's pads.
Watchorn scored Canada's second goal, also on the power-play, when she skated in from the right point and fired a shot top corner over the German goalie's glove.
Canada's third goal came early in the second period when a weak shot by Karpenko found its way between Zorn's pads.
Prevost added to the lead with a hard snap shot from the right slot that found the top corner at the 4:10 mark of the second period.
Germany broke the shutout when Hanke scored on a rebound at 9:36 of the second period after a kick save by Mazzotta.
Canada dominated the penalty filled game by converting four of 16 power-play chances. Watchorn closed out the scoring at the 14:48 mark of the third period with a goal assisted by Poulin and Natalie Spooner.
In other action Tuesday, Sweden blanked Russia 14-0, the United States outclassed Switzerland 11-0, and the Czech Republic defeated Finland 5-3.
Canada will round out the preliminary round Wednesday night against Finland at Father David Bauer Arena.
