Canada's Legein suffers shoulder injury

Canadian Press

PARDUBICE, Czech Republic — Canada forward Stefan Legein left Saturday's game against Sweden at the world junior hockey championship with an apparent separated right shoulder injury.

He appeared to suffer the injury on his first shift in the opening period after taking a bodycheck against the boards. Legein, one of the team's assistant captains, was in discomfort when he returned to the bench and later went to the dressing room for medical attention.

The 19-year-old was not expected to return to the gold-medal game.

Legein, of Oakville, Ont., was selected by the Columbus Blue Jackets in the second round (No. 37 overall) of the 2007 NHL entry draft. He plays for the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League.
