Sweden set to play for gold

Associated Press

PARDUBICE, Czech Republic — Mikael Backlund scored at 6:18 of overtime Friday to give Sweden a 2-1 victory over Russia in the semifinals of the world junior hockey championship.

Russia's Nikita Filatov opened the scoring late in the second period on a breakaway, sliding the puck between the legs of goalie Jhonas Enroth. Sweden's Robin Figren tied it on the power play with 8:10 left in the third period.

Sweden will next face three-time defending champion Canada, which beat the U.S. 4-1 in the other semi-final, for gold on Saturday.

Russia will take on the U.S. for the bronze medal, also on Saturday.
