bob smith from Canada writes: I am torn here....the NHL needs good young American players if it is going to grow and thrive, however I don't like how close they are to knocking us off our perch. I think the Yanks are a slight (maybe more than that) favourite in the game. If Mason plays big, we'll wear them out though I think they are pretty reliant on their top 6.

Combative American from Minneapolis, United States writes: Unlike my fellow Minneapolitan, I am going to have to go with the American team on this one. Though I do concede that the Canadians are the gold standard in this particular sport and will be very difficult to overcome. Should be a great game though with alot of extremely exciting displays of athletic ability, puck handling, and exemplary play-making.
I'm totally stoked!- Posted 04/01/08 at 12:20 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

joe cormorant from Canada writes: The Canadian team has tried hard to injure as many players on the opposing team every game. Many of the hits were hits to the head, which for some unkown reason were not called, except that I guess this is what is expected of Canadian players - cheap shots and brutal tactics. Hopefully the US win and silence the arrogant pompous voices until next year.

bob smith from Canada writes: Combative...can you get the game down there? I didn't think it was carried in the States. I remember going to the ESPN bar in Florida last year during the tourney. They had 75 tv's and about 40 different sports going on at the same time but had never heard of the WJC. It's an awesome tournament and it would be great if it was picked up so that more American hockey fans can follow their future stars. That American team looks real good, and you'll be seeing some of those kids again at the 2010 Olympics.
I think USA gets an early lead, Canada fights back to tie in the third and wins it in OT. No shootout this year....too hard on my heart. Then we avenge the loss to SWE with a 4-1 win.

bob smith from Canada writes: I thought this was the least physical Canadian team in a long time Joe. They are only throwing 8 hits a game and with the international refs anything out of the ordinary is called a penalty. I think we've gotten 4 flat-footed charging calls which I can't understand for the life of me. It's a physical game and always will be. The Americans play the same game (we taught them after all) and will be a hard fought clean game!

B T from Lost in Cyberspace, Canada writes: I have always, will continue today, and to the day the final horn blows - cheer for our Canadian boys and girls when it comes to hockey especially international tournaments like this and the Olympics.
I know that they will wintoday and then again on Sunday. It says so in the snowflake entrails I consulted at the mailbox this morning. When I ripped the label off my beer bottle last night - it left the initials CW - obviously 'Canada Wins'. And finally the US presidential election has started with upsets - completely distracting the American team with the thought of either a smart black man, or a guitar toting preacher will run the country. Neither of which is interested in hockey.
Focus guys - and let the puck drop.

Fire Every Sports Journalist Who Doesn't Agree With Me from Canada writes: LJ Brody, That was one of the dumbest comments I've ever seen on a G&M sports board, which means it's phenomenally dumb. We're talking hockey here, not international relations. Go somewhere else to spew this nonsense.

This is a hockey blog, go put ur stuff on Dumbpost.com. Go Canada Go, giver boys, pedal to the medal. Its going to be tough, but we will succeed. Joe Cormrat, Dont know where ur getting ur stats on that, Ive watched the games, there were some good hits out there but to say they were head shots, I think something is impeeding your sight. Either your contacts are the wrong scrip or the substance in your blood is making you halucinate. Ill bet its the 2nd.

Fire Every Sports Journalist Who Doesn't Agree With Me from Canada writes: LJ Brady, I'm willing to discuss international relations in the right venue. This ain't it. Sports is not politics. You're talking about a bunch of kids under 20 who can't be held accountable for the foreign policies of their government.

LJ Brody from Canada writes: Fire every... writes "You're talking about a bunch of kids under 20 who can't be held accountable for the foreign policies of their government" - don't know if you read the news outside the sports section, but the college age crowd you refer to just handed Obama a surprise win in the Presidential primary yesterday..that demonstrates their power, and accountability comes with that power, so yes - they are very much a part of it. More importantly - you and I are a part of it, and whether we choose to turn a blind eye to crimes against humanity is an important choice we get to make.
