  1. J. Kenneth Yurchuk from Canada writes: Cangrats Junior Nats! Now bring on the USA. This Canadian team has been a team that bends, but usually doesn't break, showing a lot of character for a team that is somewhat less talented than some of it's predecessors. The US will be a real gut check. Good Luck!!
  2. Drew Diggs from Toronto, Canada writes: Go Canada Go!
Way to get it done boys!
Alot of work to be done still, they must prepare themselves for a solid USA team and be ready for a fight. Also their goaltending needs to be better for Fridays game.
  3. David P from Calgary via Vancouver, Canada writes: Good luck against the US boys - this will be the big test! I hope that they can play for the full 60 minutes...

I have one question - isn't Karl Alzner the captain and not Brad Marchand? I generally take most of Wharmsby's articles with a grain of salt, but I was pretty sure that Alzner was wearing the C - if that's changed, I apologize in advance...
  4. L. W. from Greener Pastures, Canada writes: Can't exactly say it was an easy win, but you take em when you can get em. They had me a bit worried in the second period. They came out for the third looking a bit stronger, and more confident. Hope they can take that never say die attitude into Friday's game.
  5. Proud Canadian from Canada writes: Good win boys. Go Canada Go. Poor Steve Mason, let in a couple softies, man, anyways, he's a great goalie. Glad to see Hartsburg using Tavares in an important role. Yes, I agree he is only 17, but his talent is far superior. Great game boys, great game. Go Canada Go. Get er ready to challenge the US. Go Canada Go. We love you guys, we are behind you 110%. Go get em. Again, we love you, Go Canada Go.
  6. Mike Mike from Canada writes: Alzner is the C. Man... win is a win, but this just doesn't look like they can do it. Starts with the goalies... neither is playing well... And not as physical as last few years. Ah well... can't win them all.
  7. Proud Canadian from Canada writes: Mike Mike, agree, the goalies are letting in a softie or 2. But hey that happens. Look at Volkun the other night, he almost let a bounce from the far blue line go by him. Physical, I saw a few hits today. I havent seen the US play yet, they are usually good, and if we are to beat them, we have to have our 110% game going, or else its homeward bound. Anyways, for me, our guys are over there representing our country, I am behind them 110%. If they lose, Im still with them 110%. They are our future stars, they are giving of their family time during this time, I love those guys, I am with them. Go Canada Go. Giver boys Go Canada Go.
  8. fuzzy bare from Ontario (Not Toronto), Canada writes: The two shots that got by Mason were not "softies". The first goal was a deflection, which causes the puck to change direction, is difficult to stop. The goalie moves in the direction that places him in front of the shot, the deflection causes the puck to change direction, the goalie has to reverse his positioning to get in front of the deflected shot. It only looks easy from the stands. The bank shot from behind the net appeared to be a pass attempt. The goalie has two options, block the pass or play the shooter in front of the net. Guess wrong and its a goal.
  9. Proud Canadian from Canada writes: Fuzzy Bare, no matter what, Im behind our team 110%. Guys are great. Im glad Hartsburg is using Tavares on a line, Im glad to see him play well, all the boys are giving 110%, thats all that counts. Go Canada Go.
  10. Ziad Fazel from Calgary, Canada writes: Love that anthem after the game. Gold Canada Gold!
  11. woof woof from Canada writes: Good job boys, on to the next one. And doesn't that Tavares have a great shot?
  12. Ryan Hickman from Canada writes: How can we get this Tavares kid into a Leafs jersey???

A win is a win....and that's the bottom line. I really hope this team can get it done this year. May not be as talented as other teams in the past but they certainly don't take a back seat when it comes to heart to anyone.
  13. JEFF S from HAMILTON, Canada writes: Ryan Hickman from Canada writes: How can we get this Tavares kid into a Leafs jersey???

    ---------

Ryan, the way the Leafs are going, it should be pretty easy to get him in the Blue and White. Drafting #1 in 2009.
  14. Pete H from Canada writes: Ryan Hickman from Canada writes: How can we get this Tavares kid into a Leafs jersey???
Why would you want to ruin the kid's career?
  15. uncle rukus from Mississauga, Canada writes: It's funny how Leaf fans always want the Crosbys , Ovechekins and Tavares of the world but always want to make the playoffs every year. The only way to get these kids is easy Leaf fans you have to be the worst of the worst. Washington might be a bad example but at least they got a 30 goal scorer plus a kid names Alzner who is the junior teams captain. Chicagio did it, Pittsburgh did it, Buffalo did it . And with JFJ as your general manager at least you can't risk another Jiri Tlusty sex sandal picking 1st or 2nd overall. Guess what Leaf fans Wendal Clark was a 1st overall draft pick not rocket science....oops i forgot its Leaf Fans were talking about here.
  16. Jeff Gulley from Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic, Canada writes: Good show tonight Canada! Not the prettiest of wins, but digging deep and getting done what needs to be done to put the "W" on the board. I thought that first goal might have been deflected too, but it happened so fast on our side of the rink, I wasn't sure. It looked soft though. The second one was just bad luck.

Onto the USA. Should be a fantastic game! The Americans have had a hell of a tournament so far. I'm looking forward to it. Play hard, play well.....it's a beautiful game! Go Canada Go!
  17. dan vanman from vancouver, Canada writes: The USA will be tough, no doubt, but I think our boys can do it if the play 60 minutes. I don't think the goaltending has been that bad (thx fuzzy bare for the primary school description of a deflection!)

Don't they stay there if they lose to the USA to play the bronze medal game?

Tavares is doing great...glad they brought him along slowly. Getting him in a Laffs jersey should be easy. Just have the team continue to play the way they have been! (just kidding Nation!)

    Go Canada Go!!!
  18. MK Euro 2008 Czechs..... from Canada writes: I hope the Final will be Sweden vs Canada,to replay the same game once more at this tournament... The Czechs gave the Q-Final away to the Russians and there is obviously a problem as far as what is going on in the Czech Junior program, half of them{the good ones go to North America to play junior hockey when they are 15},the other half of Juniors over there sit on benches as 4th line subs in the Men's League and the Junior League is there but quality players are long gone.... Just a loosing receipe, which I don't know how the Czechs will adress as these youg players have the freedom to go wherever they want... There will have to be some incentives created for them not to leave the country when they are 15,but stay there, perfect the Czech hockey style/school and then go and play in NHL once they can be a real star, instead of ending up either quitting hockey and/or in AHL or East Coast Hockey League... The Czech National Hockey program, especially the Juniors is completely in disarray, right now....What a shame!!! Let's just hope that when all this mess is settled{which is self-made},there will be enough of players left to represent the Country at the Olympics and World Championship of the Seniors.... There is so much blame to go around for this "cheap sell out" of the Country, that I don't even know where to begin.... It's like if Canada would ship all their young players to "some place" and then stand there with open mouth watching them play bad for their country...When they get back there{home} for a week in the whole year to play at the World Cup...Very frustrating.....
  19. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Hey MK Euro... any idea why your team didn't ask the Leafs to release Tlusty to play in the tournament? He was eligible.
  20. MK Euro 2008 Czechs..... from Canada writes: The agreement with the European Countries' hockey federations is that during the season, they can not even ask the NHL to release the players...What the former clubs in Europe and the associations get in return is about 25 thousend dollars when they loose a player.... NHL usually doesn't let the players go even at the end of the season, when and if their teams are out...as they have a veto and usually use a recovery, being tired and/or injured after the NHL season as a result for not letting the players play for their country... Very few times the players,at least the Czech ones refuse on their own.... Last year the coach almost tore hair from his head before the Olympics and World Cup as the NHL GM's refused to release almost a whole team full of players.... The players sucumb to this as NHL is the only place where they can make several million a year playing hockey... The same players in Czech League would make about 40 to 50 thousend dollars a year for same, identical performance{not 4 million} It was always that way with the adults, now it started seriously affect the youth programs etc... Russians for example don't let the young players to leave at all{or they will never play for the country, with very few exceptions}.... Russian Federation is the only one that refused to sign the agreement about the player with NHL.....
  21. Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: MK Euro; That doesn't make sense. More than half your team this year came from OHL/WHL teams and have already been drafted.

Only injured players are asked not to play in the Worlds after their season is done..... Sundin as an example almost always played... till last year.

From what I understand.... nobody from the Czech junior program approached the Leafs about letting Tlusty play.... I have watched him play this year and I watched your Juniors play twice... you could have used him.
  22. James C. from Shenzhen, Guangdong, China writes: anyone know where i can watch these games online?

    ----------

arent all junior players playing in canada eligible to play for their national teams? if so, then all the good czech jrs should be on their national team right now.

surely there isnt one set of rules for canada and one set of rules for all other countries.
