A tip of the cap goes out to Sean Simpson, who successfully coached Canada to the Spengler Cup championship in Davos, Switzerland this afternoon.
Simpson, 47, went to Europe 25 years ago to further his playing career and is still there making his mark as the head coach of EV Zug in the Swiss Elite League, where he has on his roster Canadians Travis Green, Dale MacTavish and Paul DiPietro.
Simpson played four seasons with the Ottawa 67's of the OHL and was drafted in the seventh round by the Chicago Blackhawks 27 years ago.
After two seasons with both the New Brunswick Hawks and Springfield Indians of the AHL, he went to Europe to play in Holland for the Tillburg Trappers and began coaching a few years later in Germany.
The past two springs have found Simpson at the world championship as an assistant coach with Belarus.
