Northern Pike from Kitchener, Canada writes: ... and he should have won all the hardware last year at the NHL awards too. Got beat out by bigger names, not so much more important players to their respective teams.

Popeye Dillon from North Vancouver, Canada writes: Pike: I agree Roberto should have won some hardware last year but all three is hard to say. Some great players were acknowledged too. One thing is for certain he's the best goaltender this franchise has ever had, and the best chance to put a cup in Vancouver. Naslund and Morrison are on the end of their contracts so next year we'll have some cap space to find the missing ingredients. We might have to trade some talent to do that but for a change the Canucks have some blue chippers in the system.

Ottawa Rocks from Canada writes: Totally agree with Pike. If we had him last year, Stanley would have been back home ;)
Quite frankly, Luongo is the best goaltender in the NHL by far! Good luck Vancouver and don't screw it up....- Posted 20/12/07 at 12:07 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Ryan M from Ottawa, Canada writes: Ottawa.....agreed. Too bad Martin was sour grapes about being canned and didn't want to deal with Ottawa. The Sens were prepared to give up a LOT for Luongo....instead he was dealt in one of the most lopsided trades in history. Brilliant, Keenan...

Alberto Bayo from Canada writes: Congratulations to Roberto Luongo...an honour he richly deserves. He's a net-minder who towers over most of his fellow goalies.

j wilson from Vancouver, Canada writes: There are currently three goaltenders in the League with a better GAA and two with a better save percentage, yet Luongo (and you'll get no argument from me) is regarded as the best, and I think probably the best by a country mile.
C'mon, Dave Nonis. Ge rid of some of these weak stiffs up front while their value is artificially high. Get some grit, so there's not so many free shots and rebounds coming in.
This guy will run away with GAA and Save Percentage and a brand new ring if he ever gets a good team in front of him.- Posted 20/12/07 at 12:24 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Joe Adelino from Toronto, Canada writes: Love the Raycroft comment!! Luongo is something special, Canada has a great history of pumping superstar goalies... Looks as though Luongo will fill Brodeurs skates as Canada's top goalie for international competition very soon... However I believe Luongo has some upcoming competition: that kid turning heads everywhere in Montreal, Carey Price. That kid is awesome and I think like someone above said, Vancouver and Montreal, don't screw this up!!!

Maximilian Widmaier from Vancouver, Canada writes: It's really too bad for Vancouver fans and Luongo that many of his prime years will be spent behind one of the most gutless, clumsy, underperforming offensive units in the league (and the prospects situation is looking equally bleak).

Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: There is a magazine called "Goalies' World"?
Who knew.
That said.... Luongo is by far the best Canadian goalie right now. Maybe the best in the world...... I wonder how well he would play if he had less shots against during a game?- Posted 20/12/07 at 2:35 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Larry Robinson from Canada writes: Luongo didn't win more hardware because he is isolated on the left coast away from the mainstream media.
Max W.'s comments are right on. The Canuckleheads have squandered away any chance of having a play-off tough team by hanging their hopes on the figure skating Swedes.
Almost frustrating enought to make Roberto head an offensive rush up the ice ... at least he would have the guts to go to the net rather than spend whole shift cycling the puck like a pee wee drill.- Posted 20/12/07 at 2:55 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

ivan ivanovich from United States writes: What? Canucks underperforming? They're 14th in the league for scoring, currently above the Penguins, the Ducks and the Sharks. They also are 4th best in Goals Against. I think they are doing all right.

don diego from Canada writes: You're right on Ivan. Lke the PP/PK formula, the hope is to have your goals for and goals against ranking to add up to no more than 20. While it would be great to be scoring more goals, a total goals ranking of 18 is nothing to jump off a bridge about!

Gary Thomson from Surrey, BC, Canada writes: I just can't believe it! "Goalie World" magazine named Luongo as this 2007 Goalie of the Year? Incredible. There's a magazine out there just for goalies? Does this mean I can get a subsription to Left Winger World? I used to play left wing. So cool.

dan vanman from vancouver, Canada writes: Larry...The last year of Nazzy's contract means that they can replace him if this version doesn't work out. He deserves the chance this year based on superb performance over the length of time here. You are a hockey neophyte if you think the Sedins aren't tough. They hit the corners more this year. They go to the net. They have bulked up a bit. Any team in the league would love to have them both.
Kudos to Luongo. He is the best, and keeps the team in every game. When you watch them, you are amazed that, even on a night where he lets in a couple, when its close, Luongo usually keeps that next goal, the back breaker , out.
Thats why he is the best.- Posted 20/12/07 at 8:25 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Nor is it reason to make plans for Stanley Cup parties in Vancouver this year.
Perhaps you're happy about not being dead last. Shrug. I'd prefer a good post-season result.- Posted 21/12/07 at 4:11 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Though I agree with Larry's general point, stop with the freaking anti-European garbage. The Swedish twins are the only bright spot on this team. I don't care where they come from, just get some skilled players! (This whole notion that Europeans aren't as tough as Candians or don't work as hard or however you phrase it is a steaming pile of fetid manure).- Posted 21/12/07 at 4:19 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
