The Toronto Maple Leafs will probably have forward Chad Kilger back in the lineup for Tuesday night's game against the Montreal Canadiens but rookie winger Jiri Tlusty will remain out with what appears to be a leg injury.
The Leafs will also still have general manager John Ferguson and head coach Paul Maurice on the roster, as Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment president Richard Peddie said neither man is about to be fired.
Ferguson and Peddie came under fire over the weekend as the Maple Leafs extended their NHL losing streak to three consecutive games. They have lost six of their past seven games.
“John [Ferguson] and Paul [Maurice] are under contract and we will do what we can to support them,” Peddie said Tuesday morning. “I really have no comment on the team other than that.”
Ferguson is on the last year of his contract, while Maurice has at least two years left on his deal.
Peddie also said reports that he and the MLSE board of directors are talking to potential replacements for Ferguson are incorrect. He also said he has had no conversations with Ferguson about firing Maurice.
Kilger missed the Leafs' last four games with a sprained ankle but said after practice on Monday he hopes to play against the Canadiens. Tlusty sat out Saturday's 5-1 loss to the Phoenix Coyotes and is not expected to play until Thursday's game in Atlanta against the Thrashers at the earliest.
Forward Alexei Ponikarovsky left Monday'spractice early but Maurice said he only "cramped up" and is expected to play on Tuesday.
