Kevin Dooley from Canada writes: He's old, he's injured, he probably can't play a whole season anymore... I don't understand why John Ferguson Jr. hasn't signed him to the Leafs for a multi-year contract yet.

John Harrington from Seattle, United States writes: It's tough to give up something you love and have been quite good at doing. We've seen many players faced with this over the years and it's always hard to watch. Bobby Orr specifically sticks in my mind.
Too bad some posters in here think it's a joke. But, of course, how would they know any better never having "been there" themselves.
No No No Yes No got it right, however. Here's to you Peter. Thanks for all the great memories.- Posted 05/11/07 at 3:40 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Hats off to you, Peter! Too bad we won't see you in Ottawa this year, but that's okay.- Posted 05/11/07 at 4:40 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Matthew Perro from Calgary, Canada writes: He tried doctors and specialists around the world, all kinds of special and custom skates, taken some time off, and still his ankle is not in game shape. You've done everything you could Peter, now I guess it's time to call it a career, thanks for the memories, you will be missed on the ice, hopefully you can do something in your retirement from being a player that keeps you close to the game you obviously love.

Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: I am willing to bet he is back before the end of January. (When is the trading deadline now). He will choose a team he thinks can win the cup.
Don't think it's going to be the Sens though. Don't see them having cap space.- Posted 05/11/07 at 5:21 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Dijer Dije from Ottawa, Canada writes: Scot - it would be close for sure in Ottawa. But if a goalie were traded (and there were rumours about Corvo last year) there would be plenty. Rumour also had it however that Forsberg would want a multi-year deal (three years, I hear) which I don't think Ottawa would want. This news changes rumours however... so wait for new ones to start to surface...

Robert McKenzie from Ottawa, writes: .........
In a moment of sheer madness, Forsberg's agent talked him in into signing a deal with the Leafs for a one year contract. Realizing his mistake in going along with the deal, that he would be an elite winner on a team of eternal whiners, he gave his agent a swift kick in the buttocks, re-injuring his ankle.
Better to be hobbled by injury than hobbled by a team of losers.- Posted 05/11/07 at 5:57 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Scot Loucks from Pickering, Canada writes: Agree with you Dijer Dije; Yes they have room this year (even if they sent a goalie to the minors). I heard the same rumour about a 3 year deal... and with them locking up Spezza I don't see it happening.

Dijer Dije from Ottawa, Canada writes: I see him going to Phili 1st, Ottawa 2nd, Colorado 3rd. Detroit has the cap space but haven't heard any interest on both sides. I can't see him being interested outside those four teams.
Forsberg isn't too old people. He is 34, so younger than the likes of Sundin, Naslund, Sakic, Brind'Amour, most of Detroit, same age as Alfredsson, etc, etc... it's his ankle that is bad. If he can get that figured out, he would be a franchise player again.
I see his health as being a constrant distraction wherever he goes. In my (perhaps biased) opinion the only team I can see him joining where he won't be expected to be leading the top line is Ottawa...- Posted 05/11/07 at 6:21 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Rebel Monk from Port Hope, Canada writes: Personally, I think Forsberg's career has come to an end. A shame really He was one of the most electrifying players of his generation. If he does return it will be to tip his hat one more time to the fans and organization where his professional career started.

Rob C from Lakeside, PEI, Canada writes: The Senator rumours were started by the idiotic, syncophantic Ottawa media, not the team. As if Murray is going to broadcast that he's going after Forsberg - He's not as dumb as (most of) their fans and media members (rubes). It is questionable if Forsberg would even want to go there - he liked Colorado and owes the Flyers a lot of favours. He likely wouldn't stab them in the back and sign with a conference rival.

Ryan M from Ottawa, Canada writes: Rob C, true enough that he liked Colorado and would likely be open to returning to Philly. At this point, though, why would it be questionable that Forsberg would want to come here? I think he'd like the opportunity at having a shot at the Cup in Canada. Who knows, though, right?
Murray has been pretty open about his intentions with managing this team. I'd say he's one of the most up-front GMs out there, to be honest. That said, I don't think he'd hesitate in stating he's interested in Forsberg. I don't see it happening, though, in light of the recent Spezza contract.- Posted 06/11/07 at 11:57 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
