A Banana from Canada writes: As long as he's not the DP, fine.
Otherwise, Mo Johnston has completely lost it.- Posted 16/10/07 at 9:47 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Both great strikers in their time and can still contribute in a depth-stretched league without a DP allocation. TFC's biggest win this off season could be pressing the MLS to allow American players to count as domestic - as it should be since they are in the same league.

Patrick Nash from Canada writes: I used to watch Savo play for Aston Villa in the early 1990's. He was extremely gifted but possibly the laziest player in the world. My ears are still ringing with the fury of some of the fans when he refused to run for a ball. Before long he was booted out and couldn't find another club in the UK. Here's hoping his work ethic has changed.

Adrian BO from thornhill, Canada writes: Savo is simply a more talented copy of Dichio so what's the point. What TFC needs is a midfield brain to link up with O'Brien ( lets hope he's fit ) and a real striker up front with some legs still left in him.
From what I've seen this year the only players to keep are O'Brien, Dichio, Brennan, Edu, Wynne, Boyens and Robinson. Our goalies were decent enough so no changes required there. The rest can be traded - this will keep Mo happy and busy - but let's hope he trades for something better. All he did this year was trade for equals or worse.- Posted 17/10/07 at 8:57 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Patrick ... you're scaring me ... the laziest player in the world ... sounds like another Welsh.
If Robinson plays like he did in the Colorado game ... he should sit on the bench this Saturday ... he looked completely lost in Denver. Seeing Wales lose last week probably tells me Robinson was still lost...
How can Moe even say he'll think about Brennan ... this guy deserves to be on the starting eleven for this Saturday.- Posted 17/10/07 at 11:18 AM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Mo traded nothing for Marvell Wynne. That's a pretty successful trade since he has been one of our two best players all season. He brought in Dunivant at a time we desperately needed depth at midfield and he traded Kevin Goldthwaite for him - who hasn't played 10 minutes in New York since leaving. He also trade Buddle for Marshall to give us cover at centre half and even though Buddle scored that clearly offside goal against us in LA, that trade was also a win for us because of the backfield stability that it created.
So, there are 3 trades that Mo clearly won this season. 4 if you count Cunningham (a top 5 MLS striker) for Eskandarian (not anywhere near the top 25) but with Cunny's injuries I'll let that one go.- Posted 17/10/07 at 3:39 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

Hello BI:
Getting Wynne was a smart move and so was Marshall but the rest of the trades did not improve the team as recent results show although the injury situation certainly did not help.

A Banana from Canada writes: A lot of trades Mo Johnston did are hard to analyze because they aren't really fully reported. For example we usually have no idea how much allocation we get when we trade a player or how much we're giving away.
Another point: Despite the "we're not going to Mortgage the future" line Mojo constantly throws out there, he already did. Case and point, we traded our top pick in this years draft.
Not an overly impressive year for the manager but he'll have at least one last chance to show his colours next year. Tactics have to improve too, long ball went out of date 20 years ago.- Posted 17/10/07 at 11:30 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment

A Banana from Canada writes: One more thing, consider the relative salaries we're taking on when we're making a trade. The reason you can trade Kevin Goldwaithe for Dunivant is that one makes 3 times as much as the other. It's not as if NY doesn't realize that Goldwaithe is terrible.
So the team that's dumping salary is basically saying "we can get someone better for the money", Johnston is just the benefactor in the situation because he can't scout players outside MLS if his life depended on it (which it may next season).- Posted 17/10/07 at 11:36 PM EST | Alert an Editor | Link to Comment
