MacLeod: Blue Jays 3, Yankees 2

Globe and Mail Blog Post

IMPRESSED: It would be easy to say Aaron Hill, the Toronto runner who perfectly executed the straight steal of home off New York pitcher Andy Pettitte that provided Toronto with a 2-1 lead in the seventh inning. But how about Brian Butterfield, the team’s third base coach, who mentioned before the game even started that such a play might work against the left-handed-throwing Pettitte.

UNIMPRESSED: Scott Downs, the Toronto pitcher who came on in the seventh in relief of Shaun Marcum, gave up a solo shot to Jason Giambi that knotted the score at 1-1.

WHAT THE SECOND BASEMAN SAID: “That was fun,” said Hill, about his big play.

INJURY UPDATE: Shortstop Royce Clayton lined a foul ball off his right foot early in the game that Toronto manager John Gibbons said was causing him quite a lot of pain as the game wore on. He said Clayton will have the foot checked out but that he will be out of the lineup for several days.
