Toronto FC loses key midfielder

Globe and Mail Update

TORONTO — Toronto FC has lost one of its most important players midfielder Ronnie O'Brien for 4-6 weeks with a strained and slightly torn knee ligament.

The injury was suffered during a team practice on Tuesday at BMO Field in Toronto.

Head coach Mo Johnston emphasized the injury had nothing to do with the newly installed artificial turf at the 20,000-seat facility. Instead, he said it was the result of a "silly play" by O'Brien, who lashed out with the leg during a drill.

Johnston criticized O'Brien for his actions.
