  1. Apu Nahasapeemapetilon from Vancouver, Canada writes: Gotta love the NBA with its violence and icons like Charles Barkeley 'I hate whites' and Haradway 'I hate gays'. What ever happened to the classy players such as Bird, the Doc, Magic et al.
  2. D D from Canada writes: Yet they feel safe playing with the likes of Stephen Jackson....how very odd
  3. Robert von from Calgary, writes: This is coming from a player in a league in which over 80% of the players carry guns on a regular basis. Hmm is the problem just related to New Orleans and Las Vegas or is it a bigger problem related to the league and the nation which supports such actions.
  4. Nathan Rapoport from Toronto, writes: Why get a quote from Alston? Does the writer think that this quality of player could ever make the all star game? If the writer was looking for validation of McGrady's concerns, he should try and find another 'all star'.
  5. Joe Public from Toronto, Canada writes: Yeah Rafer, if I end up making it to next year's All Star Team, I too will have to consider the safety ramifications before making my decision...my wife as well, because she has just as good a chance of becoming an NBA All Star as either myself or Alston, seeing as she passes the ball more.
  6. YYZ Downtown from Toronto, Canada writes: Post 5 & 6: Why do you say what you really mean NBA=Blacks. How racist.
  7. Jon O from Toronto, Canada writes: Easy up Thomas. The picture is not all that clear on my screen (although to be fair, the G&M probably has a larger/clearer picture). Either way, it is unusual for two players to wear the same number...
  8. Big Cayman from South Toronto, Canada writes: LOL! YYZ! Be careful what you say on the Raps board, it can get quite venomous especially where the "Race Card" is played, apparently it trumps only the player who played it, I submit that you fold if you're scared and you have nothing in your hand, bluff if you think that the rest of the poster/players don't have a better hand, or raise if you need amusement and want to take the whole pot ;)
    Watch this YYZ people are going to remember your comment but think that I said it.

    Apu, what the hell do 2 retired players comments have anything to do with safety concerns regarding the chosen all-star venue? How do you get to racial and bigoted quotes from there? We all know the answer to that... Why don't I just paint all of baseball with the same brush because of John Rocker's quotes, or Hockey because of Mike Danton's actions. Go back to selling beef jerky at the Quicky Mart, you're comments reek, 'Thank you, come again!'.

    Apparently all NBA players are 'gang bangers' and 'street thugs' according to some of the cry babies on this board. What makes me laugh is that this article quotes two former Raptors who left on less than happy terms hours before game time, Yawn.
  9. Thomas Chow from Toronto, Canada writes: Jon O, nice they corrected it and removed my comment but left up your comment telling me to ease up (though I was joking). Interesting. It's only unusual for them to wear the same number because they originally chose a picture from the all-star game, where that's allowed. On a team, it'd never happen.

    Robert von, where exactly did you get this 80% statistic from? Sounds an awful lot like a made up one to me.
  10. Bake McBride from Vancouver, Canada writes: That's just crazy - they always have ample security at NBA games. But if you're a recognizable multi-millionaire you're just plain stupid if you're gonna go out on a night on the town in most U.S. cities, let alone New Orleans.
  11. Tee Dot from Toronto, Canada writes: I'll bet you if T-Mac was white we'd get comments painting him a racist too, considering how many African Americans reside in New Orleans. LOL...you guys are too much!
  12. Jay Star from Philadelphia, United States writes: What a jerk! Having the all star game there will infuse so much money into that city that it will really help with the rebuilding. I'm sure T-mac didn't have the best life growing up and now that he's a millionaire, he turns away from people in need???? shame shame, what would MLK say to that one?
  13. Apu Nahasapeemapetilon from Vancouver, Canada writes: Big Cayman from South Toronto, Canada;

    re-read my comments and tell me the race of Magic and Dr. J; two players I described as classy.

    Couldn't refute the argument, so you play the race card. So sad, so typical amongst your ilk. BTW, when it comes to music, my man is Jimi Hendrix; and what race is he?
  14. Big Cayman from South Toronto, Canada writes: Apu your your logic sucks, just because you cite two Afican Americans of yester-year as classy doesn't indemnify your from your rant, which again has nothing to do with event security. I'll bet tattoos and corn-rows are a scary proposition tp you. In any case the first refuge of someone who is in denial of their own predjudices is to cite some trivial fact regarding someone they know of something they like which in their mind absolves them of any introspection. So sure Apu, keep telling yourself that ;)
  15. Moose Lion from Canada writes: Apu: In answer to your first post, "What ever happened to the classy players such as Bird, the Doc, Magic et al"...

    Take a look at the top stars in the NBA today: Wade, Lebron, Shaq, Duncan, Nash, Nowitski, Ming, Bosh, Garnett - are you telling me these guys don't have class? Give me a break. I'll put that list of players against the 'classyiest' stars in the NHL, NFL or MLB any day.

    Why you would choose Barkely and Hardaway (two retired players) as representative of today's NBA is beyond me.
  16. Apu Nahasapeemapetilon from Vancouver, Canada writes: Moose Lion;

    Nash is class; definitely. Shaq; come on! Wasn't it Shaq that just recently said it was a mistake that Steve Nash was NBA MVP.

    And to Big Cayman, you need to get out of Hogtown more. There is life beyond the 401.
  17. rob johnston from Guelph, writes: Just another reason to not watch the NBA. Classeless people making classless comments. Well that and it's boring.
  18. Moose Lion from Canada writes: Shaq is pure class - what NHL player is going to go out of his way to chase down criminals on the streets of Miami? As for him saying it was a mistake for Nash to be MVP, believe it or not, a lot of people believe that is the case (i.e. Lebron should have won it last year, and Shaq the year before). It is not an uncommon thought to have, and a very, very valid opionion to have.

    What about the time he insisted that George Mikan's family let him pay for his funeral? Is that not classy enough for you? What, he did it for the publicity- as if he needs any more?

    Out of all the players listed, why is it that you only chose to focus on Nash as being classy...hmmmm....
  19. Big Cayman from South Toronto, Canada writes: HA! Apu, pretty ignorant! I don't live in Toronto (just like you're not a character from the Simpsons) There is no such place as South Toronto. The term 'South Toronto' was the ignorant diatribe from John Hostettler, chairman of the House of Representatives subcommittee on immigration and border security, noting that Toronto has a very large South Asian community and are therefore full of terrorists - Alarmist politicing scape- goating from a clueless paranoid loser. He warned "that Canada, and in particular the enclave of "South Toronto," was a breeding ground for Islamic terrorists and that the United States will be under threat as long as passports are not required of all Canadians crossing the border, a illogical non-sequitur based on prejudiced assumptions...and very much sounds familiar, kind of like your revilements ;)

    read the following excerpt regarding mardi gras this year:
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    About 6 p.m. Tuesday, two unidentified men in the Lower Garden District got into an argument that ended when one stabbed the other in the chest, said police spokeswoman Sabrina Richardson.

    About three hours after the stabbing, police responded to shots fired just outside the French Quarter. Officers chased a suspect toward Armstrong Park but he got away. A victim was later found with a gunshot wound to the head, said Sgt. Joe Narcisse, another police spokesman.

    Within 15 minutes, shots were heard again nearby and officers found two people shot in a vehicle, Narcisse said.

    The violence occurred far from Bourbon Street where thousands assembled as the city celebrated the second Mardi Gras since Hurricane Katrina

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    Now why don't you put your money where your mouth is and take you and your kids for a stroll down Bourbon street...a little different from the mean streets of Guelph.
