Roughriders continue to roll
They're atop the West Division standings and are the CFL's only undefeated team. But it seems the more the Saskatchewan Roughriders win, the more injuries they have to deal with. The defending Grey Cup champions improved to 6-0 last week with a close 22-21 road win over the Calgary Stampeders. But the Riders also lost four more players to injury, including receivers Matt Dominguez (knee) and Carl Berman (Achilles tendon) and fullback Neal Hughes (leg).

Tillman hit with another fine
For the third time in 10 months, the CFL has fined Saskatchewan Roughriders general manager Eric Tillman. The league announced yesterday it was fining Tillman $2,500 for comments made July 21 to a Regina radio station regarding the league's salary management system. Tillman criticized how the salaries of injured players count against the $4.2-million spending limit.
The West's winning ways
Take a look at the CFL standings and it's clear to see where the league's power base is. All four West Division teams have winning records led by the Saskatchewan Roughriders' perfect 5-0 mark. But Edmonton, Calgary and B.C. are all tied for second at 3-2. Compare that to the East Division, where both Montreal and Toronto are tied for top spot with 2-3 records. Hamilton and Winnipeg are tied for third at 1-4.

Joseph returns to Regina on a roll
Kerry Joseph is returning to Regina on a roll. Joseph leads the Toronto Argonauts into Saskatchewan to face the undefeated Roughriders, the same team Joseph guided to a Grey Cup title last year after being named the CFL's outstanding player. The Roughriders traded Joseph to Toronto in the off-season after being unable to agree to a contract extension with the veteran quarterback.

They were on the doorstep a year ago, but now they're in the basement. At least for now, quarterback Kevin Glenn is taking the fall for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers' 0-4 start. The Bombers have opted to go with Ryan Dinwiddie at quarterback when the Calgary Stampeders come to Winnipeg for a game Thursday.

Joffrey Reynolds ran for three touchdowns for the first time in his career and became the sixth Stampeder to rush for over 5,000 career yards. Nik Lewis's two 16-yard touchdown catches helped catapult him into eighth all-time in receptions and receiving yards in club history.
Stamps hand Trestman first loss
MONTREAL In a battle of the CFL's top two offensive clubs, it was the Calgary Stampeders defence that came out on top. Several hours later, there were no festivities, only immense sadness and many tears when news came that Bob Ackles, 69, the B.C.
Hang 'em up or hang on?
Brett Favre confronted his moment of truth on live television this week. In a farewell to the Green Bay Packers and NFL, Favre's tortured soul was stripped naked, his 10-minute speech dotted with tears, sniffles and uncomfortably long pauses. His bouts of silence said as much as his extraordinary words, many of them spoken through a cracking voice. For 17 years, Favre was the toughest hombre in the NFL, and on the day he left the league, he was reduced to sobbing child.
